Work on future Parkway begins in the Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard
Over the weekend, Chisholm Trail Parkway construction crews began working in the Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard. The NTTA and officials from UPRR collaborated over the last few years to craft a plan that allows crews to safely work around the busy rail yard.
In 2009, a temporary hump lead was built to ensure the continuation of rail operations during construction. A hump lead guides trains to an incline, or "hump," where they are separated from each other and then guided by switches to destination-specific tracks. After the hump lead was constructed, UPRR built additional railroad tracks on the north side of yard that will be used while crews work on the CTP. Work in the yard is expected to last approximately 12 months.
As work continues over the Davidson Yard, motorists will notice trucks delivering large beams that will eventually form the CTP main lanes. The delivery and installation of the beams will necessitate periodic closures along Vickery Boulevard.
Crews will close Vickery Boulevard between Hulen Street and Micki Lynn Avenue nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through March 31. Traffic will be detoured as follows:
* Eastbound traffic will be detoured north onto Micki Lynn Avenue, west to Kilpatrick Avenue, north to Eldridge Street, east to Donnelly Avenue, south to Hulen Street and east to Vickery Boulevard.
* Westbound traffic will be detoured north to Hulen Street, west to Donnelly Avenue, south to Eldridge Street, east to Kilpatrick Avenue, south to Micki Lynn Avenue and west to Vickery Boulevard.
In addition, the eastbound right lane of Vickery Boulevard between Hulen Street and Clover Lane will be closed periodically as the beams are delivered.
