The President George Bush Turnpike Western Extension, also known as State Highway 161, will provide a new, approximately 11.5-mile link in the growing loop around Dallas. The corridor consists of the tolled PGBT WE main lanes and the SH 161 frontage roads. Phase 1, which includes the frontage roads from Carrier Parkway to Interstate 20, is complete and open to traffic.  Phases 2 and 3 consist of the tolled main lanes between SH 183 and I-30 and are also open to traffic. The final phase of the project, Phase 4, extends from I-30 to I-20 in Grand Prairie and is expected to open to traffic in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Ongoing Construction

Crews continue installing structural steel and precast beams along I-20 and I-30 and Phase 4 of the project corridor. Various lane and ramp closures continue as a result.

On the north end of the corridor, excavation work is being performed at the northwest corner of the project along I-30. Direct-connector construction work continues to progress on both the north and south sides of I-30.

On the south end of the project, bridge deck operations for the direct connectors along I-20 are ongoing, along with retaining wall construction and earthwork.

Throughout the project, concrete paving, cross-street bridge construction and wall construction work continues.
