Chisholm Trail Parkway is a 27.6-mile toll road that will extend from Tarrant County to Johnson County, starting from Fort Worth's central business district at Interstate 30 and continuing to U.S. 67 in Cleburne. The NTTA began initial construction in April 2010 on Section 2C, one of the northernmost sections of the project, located in Fort Worth near Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard. In March 2010, the Texas Department of Transportation began construction of Section 3A, a $117 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project. Section 3A consists of local access improvements to Interstate 20/State Highway 183 (Southwest Boulevard) at CTP. Construction of the remaining project sections is underway. The entire CTP project is anticipated to open to traffic in mid-2014.

New lane on Hulen Street opens to traffic

Northbound Hulen Street commuters have something to celebrate this week. Crews working along the Hulen Street bridge opened an additional northbound lane at the traffic signal north of the bridge. In addition to the new lane, crews also widened the ramp from northbound Hulen Street to Vickery Boulevard. Weather permitting, it is expected that the concrete on the ramp will dry and the ramp will be ready for traffic by week's end.

The lane construction was accelerated to alleviate traffic along the bridge during construction.

Stewart Feltz Road closed to through traffic on March 8Road Work Ahead Sign

As construction continues on the CTP, crews will permanently close Stewart Feltz Road to through traffic between Old Granbury Road and West Cleburne Road on March 8. Cul-de-sacs will be built where Stewart Feltz Road intersects with the CTP right of way.

Motorists may want to use one of the following local streets to access FM 1187:

* Old Granbury Road

* Sycamore School Road

* Crowley Road

Construction progress

Drivers traveling up and down the CTP corridor can see the signs of progress on the project. Interstate 30 takes on a whole new look as crews work to prepare the right of way for the new road. Crews cleared brush and removed pavement on the northern end of the project so that they can begin construction of drill shafts. Site work is expected to continue through March between the Fort Worth and Western Railroad and Summit Avenue.

West of the Hulen Street bridge, CTP main lanes over the Trinity River are taking shape as crews continue to place concrete for bridge decks. Further south, work continues with the ongoing installation of drainage structures in several locations. In addition, site preparation work continues in the area south of Altamesa Road.

Oakmont Boulevard detour begins March 1 Flagger Sign

Crews working in the southern Fort Worth portion of the CTP project have completed theconstruction of a new detour along Oakmont Boulevard. The detour will be in place on March 1 and will shift traffic to the south while crews construct the new CTP/Oakmont Boulevard intersection, including the Oakmont Boulevard bridge over CTP. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction throughout this phase, which is expected to last through November.

Upcoming lane closures and reductions planned along I-30 and University Drive

Beginning March 1, the westbound I-30 main lanes and shoulders will be narrowed between University Drive and Summit Avenue.

In early March, the dedicated right-turn lane from Vickery Boulevard to University Drive will be closed. Motorists turning right will proceed to the signal or can use Rogers Road to Collinsworth Street as an alternative.

Demolition of SH 183 bridge over Bryant Irvin Road scheduled for March 4

Texas Department of Transportationc
onstruction crews plan to demolish the northern half of the State Highway 183/Southwest Boulevard bridge over Bryant Irvin Road. The demolition is expected to begin at 9 a.m. March 4 and end by 6 a.m. March 5.

For motorists' safety, all traffic on Bryant Irvin Road will be detoured to the SH 183 frontage roads during the bridge demolition. Motorists on Bryant Irvin Road and the SH 183 frontage roads in this area should expect significant delays. Access to local businesses will be maintained and police officers will be present to direct traffic along the detour route.

Rolling closures along I-30 planned for late March

Utility crews will perform rolling lane closures on east- and westbound I-30 from Summit Avenue to the Trinity River from 7-9 a.m. These closures will occur on a weekend day in late March. An exact date will be announced in an upcoming edition of the CTP Update.

In addition, the following ramps will be closed periodically between 7-9 a.m. while the work is being performed:

* Eastbound I-30 University Drive entrance ramp

* Westbound I-30 frontage road at Parkview Road

* Eastbound Forest Park Boulevard entrance ramp

* Westbound Summit Avenue entrance ramp to I-30

* Westbound frontage road between Summit Avenue and Forest Park Boulevard

Law enforcement will be on hand to direct motorists for the closures.
