The President George Bush Turnpike Western Extension, also known as State Highway 161, will provide a new, approximately 11.5-mile link in the growing loop around Dallas. The corridor consists of the tolled PGBT WE main lanes and the SH 161 frontage roads. Phase 1, which includes the frontage roads from Carrier Parkway to Interstate 20, is complete and open to traffic. Phases 2 and 3 consist of the tolled main lanes between SH 183 and I-30 and are also open to traffic. The final phase of the project, Phase 4, extends from I-30 to I-20 in Grand Prairie and is expected to open to traffic in the fourth quarter of 2012. ________________________________________________________________ |

Ongoing Construction
On the north end of the project, the new westbound I-30 exit ramp to SH 161 opened to traffic on Feb. 18. Motorists will notice the new ramp is located further east, closer to Carrier Parkway.
PGBT Western Extension construction crews recently completed concrete beam and other major concrete installations at the Jefferson Street bridge. The center bent foundations at the Union Pacific Railroad bridge also are complete, and crews will soon begin work on the bridge columns.
On the south end of the project, concrete bridge beams and deck panels continue to be placed along the I-20 direct connectors, and concrete paving work continues south of Dickey Lane to I-20.
In addition, drainage and retaining walls continue to be constructed throughout the project.
