Chisholm Trail Parkway is a 27.6-mile toll road that will extend from Tarrant County to Johnson County, starting from Fort Worth's central business district at Interstate 30 and continuing to U.S. 67 in Cleburne. The NTTA began initial construction in April 2010 on Section 2C, one of the northernmost sections of the project, located in Fort Worth near Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard. In March 2010, the Texas Department of Transportation began construction of Section 3A, a $117 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project. Section 3A consists of local access improvements to Interstate 20/State Highway 183 (Southwest Boulevard) at CTP. Construction of the remaining project sections is underway. The entire CTP project is anticipated to open to traffic in mid-2014.

Residents and business owners turn out for community meetings

CTP meeting
Corridor Manager Kevin Reilly discusses the CTP project
with residents in south Fort Worth.

More than 140 business owners, commuters and residents attended two Chisholm Trail Parkway outreach meetings on Tuesday, Feb. 7, in south Fort Worth. The meetings, a part of the NTTA's outreach efforts, provided participants with an update on the project and the anticipated construction schedule. Project partners (the Texas Department of Transportation and the City of Fort Worth) were also on hand to discuss their construction projects related to the CTP.

During the business owner outreach meeting, a third Business Information Group (BIG) was formed. The south Fort Worth BIG joins the Hulen Street and Interstate 30/downtown Fort Worth BIGs. These groups were developed to keep business owners and managers connected to the project.

If you are a business owner or manager in south Fort Worth and would like to join the BIG, please call (817) 916-5105 or send an email to ChisholmTrail@ntta.org.

Insurance Lane bridge set for demolition

TxDOT crews are expected to begin demolishing the Insurance Lane bridge on Friday, Feb. 17. The bridge will eventually be replaced by the future CTP frontage road bridge over State Highway 183 that connects to Insurance Plaza. Over the last two weeks, crews gradually shifted traffic onto the new detour pavement.

TxDOT crews have been working near the I-20/SH 183 interchange since 2010. The $117-million access improvement project at I-20/SH 183 is in preparation for the future SH 121/CTP. The project will construct several new bridges, access ramps and new SH 121/CTP frontage roads as well as lowering and rebuilding the SH 183 main lanes. Completion for this portion of the CTP is scheduled for spring 2013.

Project information is accessible at: www.txdot.gov, KEYWORD: Chisholm Trail Parkway.

Coming Soon....

Oakmont Boulevard detour planned for Feb. 23

Flagger SignCrews working in the southern Tarrant County portion of the CTP project created a new detour that will direct motorists around construction activities. The new detour will be in place beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, and will shift traffic slightly south of Oakmont Boulevard onto the new detour pavement. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. This traffic pattern is expected to last through November 2012.

Closures planned along Overton Ridge Boulevard this week

Crews will close one outside eastbound and one outside westbound lane of Overton Ridge Boulevard just west of River Ranch Road. The closure is necessary as crews begin work on the CTP bridges near Overton Ridge Boulevard. This traffic pattern is expected to be in place through early May 2012.

Upcoming lane closures and reductions planned along I-30 and University Drive

Beginning March 1, the westbound I-30 main lanes and shoulders will be narrowed between University Drive and Summit Avenue.

In early March, the right-turn lane from Vickery Boulevard to University Drive will be closed. Motorists will be detoured to Rogers Road and Collinsworth Street.

Rolling closures along I-30 planned for mid-March

Utility crews will perform rolling lane closures on east- and westbound I-30 from Summit Avenue to the Trinity River from 7-9 a.m. These closures will occur on a weekend day.

In addition, the following ramps will be periodically closed between 7-9 a.m. while the work is being performed:

   * Eastbound I-30 University Drive entrance ramp

   * Westbound I-30 frontage road at Parkview Road

   * Eastbound Forest Park Boulevard entrance ramp

   * Westbound Summit Avenue entrance ramp to I-30

   * Westbound frontage road between Summit Avenue and Forest Park

Law enforcement will be on hand to direct motorists while the work is being performed.
