The President George Bush Turnpike Western Extension, also known as State Highway 161, will provide a new, approximately 11.5-mile link in the growing loop around Dallas. The corridor consists of the tolled PGBT WE main lanes and the SH 161 frontage roads. Phase 1, which includes the frontage roads from Carrier Parkway to Interstate 20, is complete and open to traffic. Phases 2 and 3 consist of the tolled main lanes between SH 183 and I-30 and are also open to traffic. The final phase of the project, Phase 4, extends from I-30 to I-20 and is expected to open to traffic in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Ongoing Construction

On the north end of the project, steel girder installation continues along Interstate 30 and SH 161, requiring nightly closures through the morning of Sunday, Feb. 12. In addition, work at the January Lane bridge at SH 161 continues as crews construct drill shafts and columns.

On the south end, direct-connector bridge beams and deck panels continue to be placed along the I-20 area. Concrete paving work is progressing from just south of Dickey Lane to I-20.

Drainage and retaining walls continue throughout the project.

Upcoming Closures

The following closures will be in place from Wednesday, Feb. 8, through Sunday, Feb. 12, for construction work along I-30 and SH 161:

Westbound I-30 closures
Wednesday, Feb. 8, and Thursday, Feb. 9: Nightly from 7-8 p.m.

* Closure: One left, westbound main lane of I-30 from Belt Line Road to

SH 161 will be closed.

Wednesday, Feb. 8, through the morning of Friday, Feb. 10: Nightly from

7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

SH 161 frontage road closures:

* Northbound SH 161: The northbound SH 161 frontage road from eastbound I-30 to westbound I-30 will be closed.

Northbound Detour: All northbound motorists will be detoured east onto the I-30 main lanes to the Belt Line Road U-turn, then back to the westbound I-30 exit.

* Southbound SH 161: The southbound SH 161 frontage road from Egyptian Way to I-30 will be closed.

Southbound Detours: Eastbound Egyptian Way motorists heading south on the SH 161 frontage road will be directed to continue east on Egyptian Way to Carrier Boulevard, then south to Tarrant Road, then back west to southbound SH 161. Westbound Egyptian Way traffic will be directed to continue west on Egyptian Way to Duncan Perry Road, then south to Tarrant Road, then back to southbound SH 161.

Wednesday, Feb. 8, through the morning of Friday, Feb. 10: Nightly from

7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

PGBT Western Extension closures:

* Closure: All southbound main lanes of the PGBT Western Extension from Lower Tarrant Road to Egyptian Way will be closed.

Detour: Motorists will be detoured to the Lower Tarrant Road exit.

Wednesday, Feb. 8, through the morning of Friday, Feb. 10: Nightly from

8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

* Closure: All westbound I-30 main lanes from Carrier Parkway to SH 161 will be closed.

Detour: Traffic will be reduced to one lane and diverted off the main lanes to take the SH 161 exit, continuing west to the I-30 entrance ramp west of SH 161.

Eastbound I-30 closures

The following closures will be in place from Friday, Feb. 10, through Sunday, Feb. 12, for construction work along eastbound Interstate 30 and State Highway 161 for the President George Bush Turnpike Western Extension project:

Friday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 11: One, left eastbound main lane of I-30 closed

* Closure: One left, eastbound main lane of I-30 from Duncan Perry Road to SH 161 will be closed nightly from 7-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, and from 10-11 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11.

Friday, Feb. 10, through the morning of Sunday, Feb. 12: Nightly SH 161 frontage road closures:

* Northbound SH 161 closure: All northbound SH 161 frontage road lanes from Tarrant Road to the westbound I-30 frontage road will be closed from 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, through 6 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, and from 10 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, through 9 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 12.

Northbound SH 161 detours: All northbound motorists heading to east- or westbound I-30 will be detoured west on Tarrant Road to 105th Street, then north to Six Flags Drive. They will enter the highway using the east- or westbound I-30 the entrance ramp. Motorists continuing north on SH 161 will be detoured eastbound on I-30 to the Belt Line Road U-turn, then back west to the SH 161 exit to northbound SH 161. Motorists heading east or west on I-30 will enter the highway from the east- or westbound entrance ramp.

* Southbound SH 161 closure: The southbound SH 161 frontage road from the westbound I-30 frontage road to the eastbound I-30 frontage road will be closed from 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, through 6 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, and from 10 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1,1 through 9 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 12.

Southbound SH 161 detours: Southbound motorists will be detoured west on I-30 to the SH 360 exit, traffic continuing south on SH 161 will be detoured south on 105th Street, then east on Tarrant Road then back to SH 161. Traffic headed east on I-30 will be detoured east on Six Flags Drive then back to I-30.

Friday, Feb. 10, through the morning of Sunday, Feb. 12: Eastbound I-30 main lanes closed

* Closure: All eastbound I-30 main lanes (including the HOV lane) from Duncan Perry to SH 161 will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, through 5 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, and from 11 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11 through 9 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 12.

Detour: Traffic will be reduced to one lane and diverted off the main lanes and take the SH 161 exit, continuing east to the I-30 entrance ramp east of SH 161.
