This is a Call for Papers for the 13th Sakyadhita International Conference on Buddhist Women, Vaishali (Bihar), India, January 5-12, 2013.  
Conference Theme:
"Buddhism at the Grassroots"

Sakyadhita International Association of Buddhist Women is pleased to announce its 13th Sakyadhita International Conference on Buddhist Women, to be held in Vaishali, India, from January 5-12, 2013, followed by an optional tour to Buddhist pilgrimage sites. Vaishali is the place where Mahaprajapati, the Buddha's foster mother, became the first Buddhist nun.

 

Proposals are being accepted for panel presentations and workshops on topics related to women in Buddhism. Proposals (250-500 words in length) should be received by March 1, 2012. Notification of acceptance will be sent by April 1. Final papers (2,500 words maximum) are due by May 1 for translation into various languages. Proposals should include sender's name, institutional affiliation, and contact information. All proposals and papers must be the original, unpublished work of the presenters.

Further suggestions are welcome! Sakyadhita encourages diversity and creativity. We welcome proposals from presenters of any gender, nationality, or status. We also invite proposals for short films and PowerPoint slide shows (10-15 minutes in length) related to women in Buddhism.

 

Please send proposals to [email protected], with a copy to [email protected], to be received by March 1, 2012. All speakers and workshop presenters must register for the conference. Any requests for special dates for presentations must be included with the proposal.

 

Sponsorship is available for participants from developing countries who have never attended a Sakyadhita conference. For an application form, write: [email protected], with a copy to [email protected]. Applications must be received by June 1. We regret that conference funding is limited and sponsorship depends on donations received.
