Greetings!

Welcome to the June/July edition of my Coaching Newsletter.

It has been quite a whirlwind couple of months for me with
a series of 6 image and presentation skills workshops for a corporate client in Brisbane and Perth in April/May/June, a career planning workshop in Melbourne for another client and, coming up, more lunchtime talks and career management workshops in Sydney on top of the regular individual face-to-face and telephone career coaching consultations with clients I enjoy so much.  I love the travel and also delivering to large audiences even thought it means a lot of preparation and a number of sleepless nights wondering if I have prepared enough!  Everything has gone really well so far so all the practice and preparation ensured success.

Perth presentation skills & professional image session

After my last Perth presentation I flew to Hong Kong to spend several days holiday with my two daughters as my older daughter has decided to take a big step in her fashion career and make the move from Sydney to London. Hong Kong, my old home, was the perfect place to meet en-route to the UK.

As a self-confessed 'helicopter' mother it was hard to say goodbye to Jes and her boyfriend, Marc, as they embarked on the London chapter of their lives, however I am so proud that I have two independent, career-minded and determined daughters with enormous warmth, heart, talent and dedication.  What more could a parent ask for?  As a career coach, I know that such positive attitude, enthusiasm plus talent will ensure success. (A blog post on 'how parents must let go' is on the cards ... !)

Marketing -
The Sphere of Influence

Get your product or service noticed!  Easier said than done?  Here's a good way to start ...
Sphere of Influence 2

You have a new product or service to offer and you need to get to a decision maker in order to market this effectively.  What are you going to do?  It's not always easy to reach your target audience and this is true regardless of what market you are in.  You could go through a number of channels to reach the decision maker and this can be very time consuming and, at times, tedious too.   What happens when you reach the decision maker and the enthusiasm you have for your service or your product is not shared?  Read more ...

Business Etiquette -
The Art of the Introduction
      Networking

In a business environment, are you making your introductions correctly?  You could be forgiven for not following standard etiquette when in comes to introductions in a private setting, however when it comes to business etiquette, it will boost your confidence if you are able to display respect to those to whom correct protocol matters.  How skilled are you at making introductions?  A proper introduction sets the tone for how others will perceive you.  It's all about first impressions and we all know we only get one chance to make a positive first impression! Read more ...

Cross Cultural Differences -

What Do I Wear, What Do I say?

Cross Cultures Globe

Stepping safely through the minefield of cross-cultural differences when working in this global economy has many of us lacking from time to time.  What is appropriate in Europe, Asia-Pacific or the Middle East?  How should we act, what should we wear?  In our own culture correct etiquette needs to be followed to project the right image with enough respect to generate acceptance.  How many of us even know the right things to do at the right time in our own culture?   Here are few suggestions as a starting that may help when doing business abroad.  Read more ...

Your Resume -
What Are Your Accomplishments?

           Resume accomplishments
Have you kept your resume up to date?  Or is it lurking somewhere in the dusty cornice of your mind waiting to be dug out and brushed off at some time in the undetermined future?  It's always a good idea to keep an updated resume, not just for application purposes but also for performance review purposes (why, specifically, do you deserve that raise?) and, if nothing else, a reminder of how good you are and what you have achieved in your career so far.  A good resume is a great confidence booster. Read more ...
