The Breath Of Life
How often have you heard "take in 10 deep breaths to calm down"? Or before you make a decision or release stress someone often makes a comment about a deep sigh or deep breath to relax. We can often find much wisdom in these "old wives tales".
Breathing is a metaphor for life. If you cut off your breathing, then try to see what in your life you are cutting off. By learning how to breath properly, you can add to the flow of energy within your body and increase the "life" in events around you. That's basically what transmutation breathing is. It is a mechanism for helping the lungs transform it's energies for the betterment of the whole body.
Carl Sagan told us we are all "Star Stuff", so as you breath allow the star that you are to light your inner world and be illuminated to the wonderment that you are.
Meditation Exercise:
Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Take a few moments to "simply be". Notice whatever is being experienced in the moment - sounds, physical sensations, thoughts, feelings, allow all to be as it is.. Continue for a few moments as you feel yourself relaxing.
Gently focus on your breath. Simply notice the breath as it moves in and out automatically, effortlessly as the body inhales and exhales. Allow your breath to be in its own natural rhythm - simply be with your breath. Notice the experience of your breathing... how it feels as it moves in and out of your nose of mouth.... How your body moves as it breaths. Allow any tension or tightness to melt away.
If your mind wanders- that's fine, it doesn't matter. That's a part of the meditation! When you notice that your focus has shifted away from your breath... gently, easily bring your attention back to it. Stay in this place for as long as you want.
Gently bring your focus to your physical body - breath into it. Tense up your whole body, feel it very tense - hold it..... Then let go and feel yourself present in this moment - fully back in the physical world - stretch your body as you feel the breath of life reenergise and revitalise you. Move through your day in this gentle state and all will unfold in perfect synchronicity.
