"Listen! The wind is rising, and the air is wild with leaves,
We have had our summer evenings, now for October eves!"

- Humbert Wolfe

Welcome to Fall!

As we move from summer into back to school and all the activities of Fall (football games, leaf gathering and blowing and even some fires in the fireplace), I want to thank all the P2P Coordinators who are hosting many trainings, events and support groups across the state. During these very uncertain and stressful times with the economy in a bad way and many people out of work we are lucky that there are Parent to Parent Programs and Coordinators that can provide assistance to so many families and in different ways across the state.

Welcome a new Program in Island/San Juan and a new Coordinator in Walla Walla, Cyndy Knight; Joyce McCormick and John Mahaney in Yakima; Julie Couture-Caplan in King and Pam Oliver in Snohomish. And a big thank you to Teri Hough who is retiring as East Regional Coordinator after many years and Angie Witt, Marla Barstad and Jessie Atkins from Parent to Parent.

Take care of yourselves,

- Susan

October is National Bullying Prevention Month! Did you know that more than 160,000 U.S. students stay home from school each day for fear of being bullied? The PACER Center offers tools to address this important issue. Here is a link to "Bullying at School (What a Family Can Do)",  a pamphlet from the Education Ombudsman's Office.

One summer evening during a violent thunderstorm a mother was tucking her son into bed. She was about to turn out the light when he asked with a tremor in his voice, "Mommy, will you sleep with me tonight?" "I can't dear," she said, "I have to sleep in Daddy's room." A long silence was broken at last by his shaky little voice, "The big sissy."
