A warm and toasty Happy New Year to all my friends, family, and collectors!

I sit here, tucked inside during the Christmas Blizzard of 2009, watching the cardinals come out after three days of ice imprisonment, reminding myself of just how exciting a new year is.

Unlike thousands of others my new years resolutions of diet and exercise are alive and strong!

For exercise I am now jumping on bandwagons, running around in circles, and upsetting apple carts.  On the diet side of things I am eating crow, putting my foot in my mouth, and swallowing my pride.

I hope each of you has the best possible year in 2010!

Birds Of A Feather

2010 is off and flying!!  I received notice that several on my photographs were included in exhibitions in Washington and North Dakota.

The first show, Birds of a Feather, will include 2 of my photographs, Sentinel and Good Bye, as part of the show at the Sixth Street Gallery in Vancouver, WA

This show aims to explore all things related to our feathered friends.  From beaks to talons, and bills to webbed feet.  To explore their anatomy, behaviors, and their habitats.

It is a collection of photographs, paintings, sculptures, and drawings.  The show will be on display the whole month of January.  This is a perfect opportunity for my West Coast friends, fans, and collectors to stop in and see the show.  I know a couple of you work with non-profits that help birds, and this show would be great for you to see!!
Americas 2010 Paperworks
dry dreams

For my Northern Plains friends the second show that I was accepted into was Americas 2010 Paperworks

Americas was juroried by Heidi Goldberg, assistant professor of Art at Concordia College, Moorehead, MN.  Heidi has exhibited works in numerous national and international exhibitions, and won 3 Bush Foundation Grants.

This juried exhibition had 216 artist submit 657 works for consideration.  My piece, Dry Dreams, was one of 60 included in the show.

The show will be on display from January 11 thru February 24 at the Northwest Art Center, Minot, ND.

Now for the fun part of collecting art!  The time to go exploring for those new pieces that we are drawn to or intrigued by!!

You have spent some time thinking about what you want to collect, but where do you start looking?  There are thousands of galleries, blogs, websites, museums, art fairs all over the nation.  The sheer number of venues can be very intimidating and overwhelming.

I will not cover any local galleries or museums as there is simply to many to go over.

I would recommend that if you are new to collecting art the first place to go is to local and regional art fairs.

Art fairs are the best place to see the quality of the art work up close, and to talk to the artist about their work.  There is such a wide variety of pieces on display, and the artists are usually already established in their region at the very least.  A few artists at these fairs are even collected nationally.  To find out about art fairs in your area you can do a internet for art fairs and then your city, state, or region.  You can also go to Zapplication to see a list of show and dates.

Another place to look that is easily accessible to everyone is the internet.  There are some great websites out there that produce very affordable pieces with a wide range of styles and forms.  Here are a few I have come across to get you started:

This list is not a complete list by any means, and some of you won't even like the pieces that are on them, but it is a place to start you search.

Exploration is the fun part anyways, right?
