A Sweet (Hopefully) Message at Valentines
Or, "How Sweet It Is"
I certainly do not need an excuse enjoy candy and chocolate. A colleague of mine at school, up until very recently, kept an amazing dish of candy in her office and she heartily welcomed visitors. I don't drink or smoke, I go to church and I try to live right. When it comes to sweets, I am shamelessly indulgent. I think that it is worth it to have indulgences that do not result in adverse effects, and I am committed to maintaining as high of a quality of life as possible. This goes for me, and it goes for Buzzy and Nick. Of course, they do not partake of chocolate with me. They have their own treats (they like Solid Gold jerky treats).
I think that "sweets" presents an appropriate metaphor for the work we do in Rescue. We are committed to quality of life for Yorkies. We care for those who need medical attention, we rescue the homeless and abandoned, and we provide a new start for those whose lives did not start out well. What is fantastic here is that as the quality of the Yorkie's life raises, it also enhances the quality of the adoptive family! I have experienced, firsthand, the joy that comes from adopting a rescue and I have witnessed several over the years. I have Yorkies in virtually every direction in my neighborhood, and folks just light up when they talk about them.
Yorkies. Rescue. Rescue people. Rescued Yorkies.
How Sweet It Is!
From my house to yours, Julie And Buzzy and Nick

Thank you for agreeing to be interviewed, so that we can spotlight you in the upcoming Yorkie Times.
1. Tell us about yourself. Where are you originally from? Where do you live now? I retired from General Motors in Sept. of 1997. I love to garden, sew, crochet and paint. I was born and raised here in Kokomo, Indiana. 2. How long have you been involved in Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue? Around seven years, I think. 3. How did you become involved? My good friend, Corrine Ellison was always talking about YTNR and one day ask me if I would like to join. She needed a cookie baker, someone to sew and chrochet toys for the fur babies. 4. Any Yorkies of your own? I have two yorkie mix fur babies. They are brother and sister, 5 years old named Max and Mollie. I have had them since they were 5 weeks old.
5. What is your proudest moment in rescue? The year my Mollie won best personality at the Yorkie Ball.
6. What do you love about Yorkies? I love their personalities, and how smart they are. Also they love everybody and are happy all the time. 7. If you have one wish granted for 2011, what would it be? That YTNR will have ample funds to continue the wonderful work they do with all the Yorkie rescues. Thanks! Julie

VALENTINE GREETINGS
It's so wonderful that so many of us have the companionship of our sweet pets, who give us unconditional love...
Happy Valentine's Day.
Here's an update...
We are buried in 2 feet of snow, here on Long Island, and we are expecting another snowstorm this weekend, so we are very happy to have those sweet pets to keep us warm! Can summer be far away? Having nice dog events is something that helps us get through the winter, and below are some of the best! We certainly hope to see you at some of them!
WESTMINSTER WEEK Hope that some of you can visit us in NY at the Yorkie Specialties and Westminster! It's a wonderful week, and we will appear in a few locations! If you are coming, please let us know, we would love to say hi, and get a few pics!-)
Fri: Pre-Westminster Party/Event, Hotel Penn (we appear at 8:30)
Sat: Yorkie Banquet, New Yorker Hotel (approx 7pm)
Sun: Yorkie Specialties Performance, New Yorker Hotel... We will have a "Team Jilli Dog" area, in the lobby, 2nd floor, outside the Show ballroom (where they have raffle baskets)
Sat and Sub: The Yorkie Specialties are at the New Yorker Hotel, and if you have never been, it's a great, very reasonable ($5 day) experience, that is a great intro to dog shows... Sort of a miniature Westminster, just for Yorkies, where the top Yorkies of the world gather and compete, before the big show on Mon and Tues...
WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB DOG SHOW This is the big one!!! The top dog show in the world, because it has ONLY champions, of all recognized breeds! It's at the famed Madison Square Garden, and if you can get in to see the Yorkies compete, then catch any other breeds that you might enjoy, wou will have an amazing adventure! I will be there, covering the event for Yorky Club Magazine, International... My columns, as you might know, are about the stories of everyday Yorkies lives, whether show dogs, or family pets, or both! About family trips with the dogs, about Pet Friendly Travel, funny experiences, and one of my favorites is "It's a Small (dog) World"! If you go to the Westminster, please find me, or contact me ahead of time!
INTERNATIONAL DOG SHOW in NORWAY This will be another wonderful experience overseas, with our great friends/publishers from Yorky Club Magazine! So far we have been to Sweden, Italy/San Marino, and now Norway! We are thrilled to perform, take part and to cover for YC! Would LOVE to see some of you meet us there!-) More info coming!
YTNR BALL 2011 And, of course, we will be at the YTNR BALL weekend in Nashville! We will be performing a show at the Dinner, and will do a seminar at a chosen time! This will be our third YTNR Ball, and we had great times, and know this one will be great too!!!
TEAM JILLI DOG HOME SHOW/SEMINARS We are building our 'Home Show/Seminars tours', and if you would like to host one, let us know!? We will try to work it into a tour, that goes through your area! Host goes free, and 20 to 30 friends plus, makes a party!!!-) FUN! Meet Jilli, Spidey and Ruby, see the show, get some training tips, that ANYbody can do!
Hope to see you!!! Much Love,
Rick, Jilli Dog, Spidey Chi, Ruby Dog

Tellington Touch
|
ABALONE TTOUCH
TTouch is a gift we can give our dogs, our families, our friends, and ourselves. Like good nutrition, TTouch supports and improves a wide variety of conditions. Results include stress reduction, pain relief, increased ability to learn, faster, more complete healing, fear reduction, behavior modification, trust building, and much more. TTouch also keeps us aware of our dogs' physical conditions, allowing us to respond quickly to any change.
The foundation of Tellington TTouch is a one-and-a-quarter circle. Visualize a clock face. Beginning at the bottom of the circle...6 o'clock...push the skin once around the clock, past 6, stopping at 9. Take care to push, not rub, the skin. Make your circle as round as possible, and your light pressure consistent all the way round. Breathe slowly and deeply as you work, taking one to 3 seconds to complete a circle. When you reach 9, pause for a moment, then slowly release the pressure and, making a short connecting slide to the next circle, move on.
We do only one circle on a given spot, because more will irritate the one being TTouched, and the value of the work will be lost.
Circles are generally done in a clockwise direction, regardless of which hand you are using. Sometimes an animal or person will actively object to clockwise circles. Or, you may simply have a sense that the clockwise circle is causing discomfort. When this happens, make your circles counterclockwise and notice if the receiver relaxes and becomes more accepting. Trust yourself, trust your intuition.
Nonthreatening, warm, comforting ABALONE TTOUCH is one of the easiest to do. It's excellent for calming nervous animals, relaxing tense muscles, and treating sensitive, sick or injured dogs.
Relax your body, breath slowly and deeply, and place your entire flat hand softly on the dog. Allow you hand to soft, flexible, flowing, like the sea creature for which this TTouch is named. Allow your arm to be part of the circular movement. Use just enough contact with fingers, palm and heel of your flat hand to push the skin in a circle without sliding over the hair. Make your circle as round as possible.... this gets easier with practice!... moving from 6 to 12 to 6 and around to 9, breathing as you go. Pause at 9, then release and slide your warm, relaxed hand a small distance and make another circle.
As you TTouch with one hand, keep your other hand in gentle contact with the animal's body. Having two hands on the receiver supports, relaxes, and generally completes a circle of energy.
If your dog resists TTouch, stop for a moment and check in with yourself. Are you breathing? If I hold my breath, which happens when I'm tense or distracted, my arms and hands get stiff. The animal lets me know right away that my TTouch is unpleasant, even uncomfortable. I've discovered that working while I have significant tension in my own body quickly makes me tired.
Another cause of resistance can be too much pressure. Many beginners say the biggest surprise about this work is the lightness of the touch. Even knowing how light TTouch should be, as a student I would forget and press too hard. The animals quickly let me know! Use only as much pressure as you would use to press comfortably on your eye lid! TTouch is a modality in which less is definitely more!
Tension in our bodies, and in our thoughts, transfers quickly into the dog, sometimes even before we begin to TTouch them. Make an effort to set aside stressful thoughts while sharing the gift of TTouch with your dog! Instead, visualize something calm and beautiful. Notice how your dog responds when you do.
Breathing can unlock tension and allow everything to flow. As you TTouch, breathe in slowly, then imagine your exhaled breath sending light through your hand into the dog's cells. Explore this a few times and notice if anything changes with the dog, and with you.
"TTouch may be done over the entire body, and each circular TTouch is complete within itself. It is not necessary to work the whole body in a single session as with many other modalities of bodywork. You may decide one day to work on your (dog's) head and neck, another day ...on the shoulders and back, and so forth."

Forever Home |
A Thank You note for the Care Package Gift that Ellie, a YTNR Rescue, sends to all our adoptive dogs when they find their "Forever Home"
Ellie didn't receive any letters this month but Corrine received this from Jenna's mother and we wanted to share her happy ever after story and pictures. Jenna's mother changed her name to Bella but for those that remember her we are using both names.
Dear Corrine, Here is just a little something for you from me and mom. We are sorry some of the pictures are a little fuzzy, but we had to do the book right away and the only pics we had available at the time were the ones that were in Mom's phone. She is not a very good photographer. We just wanted you to know that we were thinking of you and I wanted to thank you for all the things you have done for me. Please don't forget me and if you are ever in the Boston area I hope you will come and visit me.
If you ever see any of my babies, please give them all a big smooch for me and tell them that I love them and I hope they all find a forever home and are as happy as I am. Thank you so much for everything and all you do and have done for me.... Tons of Hugs and Kisses and thank you for everything. Bella aka Jenna & Mom too!!!!!!

Neeko's Joke
|

~ Two dogs were walking along a road. One dog stopped and said, "My name is Fido. What's yours?" The other dog thought for a minute, and then replied, "I think it's Down Boy." ~
Love to all, Neeko :o)
