clientThis is the first article in a five-part series that answers client's questions.
Client Question:
I've heard lots of terms like complaint, deposition, mediation. Can you explain these terms, and what happens during a civil lawsuit?
Within the justice system are both criminal and civil matters. The purpose of the criminal justice system is to punish the criminal and incarcerate that person if it's appropriate. The purpose of the civil justice system is to obtain justice for the injured party by trying to get compensation with monetary damages.
In pursuing justice, the client and attorney act as a team. Effective communication is critical to a successful resolution.

10 things you should buy used:
usedMost books are only read once and are easy to find used at steep discounts.

Just like a new car that depreciates the minute you drive if off the showroom floor, many other items are easier on your budget if you buy them used.
An article by Liz Pulliam Weston, personal finance columnist on MSN Money, names 10 items to buy used and to buy new, using a cost vs. use equation:

Buy Used:
Books
DVDs and CDs
Little kids' toys
Jewelry
Sports equipment
Timeshares
Vehicles
Software and console games
Office furniture
Hand tools
And, 10 you should buy new:

Laptops are more likely to be dropped, banged and spilled on.

Buy New:
Laptops
Car seats
Plasma and high-definition TVs
DVD players
Vacuum cleaners
Digital cameras and video cameras
Shoes
Mattresses
Wet suits
Helmets
