George Washington owes about $300,000 in library late fees

In the 1930s employees at the New York Society Library found a ledger that revealed on Oct. 5, 1789, George Washington checked out "The Law of Nations," a book on international law, and volume 12 of the "Parliamentary Register," a book of debates from the British House of Commons.
