EndoZap-R™ is a chemically synthesized 34mer peptide derived from the Sushi 3 domain of the horseshoe crab Factor C.
EndoZap-R™ can be used for the neutralization of endotoxin in aqueous solutions.
- The peptide can neutralize endotoxin as determined by the LAL reaction and supression of endotoxin-induced hTNF-a secretion from THP-1 monocytes (Tan et al. FASEB J. 14: 1801, 2000. PMID 10973930)

EndoZap-R™ can also be used as a potent antimicrobial agent.
- EndoZap-R™ is effective against gram-negative bacterial species.
- Concentrations as low as 0.06 µg/ml can achieve 90% killing in a 10^9 cfu Pseudomonas culture within 7 minutes.(Yau et al. Antimicrob. Agents Chemother. 45: 2820, 2001 PMID 11557475).
- Atomic force microscopy results in E. coli demonstrate that Sushi peptides work via a three-stage "carpet model" lysis. (Li et al. Biochim. Biophys. Acta. 1768: 411, 2007 PMID 17275779).
