A Samaritan's Feet Volunteer playing with Iraqi children
Samaritan's Feet has announced its list of 2011 International Projects in some of the countries of greatest need.  In politically-conflicted Zimbabwe, our teams can provide children the shoes they need to go to school and empowerment to church leaders using foot washing to share the message of peace throughout the country.

In Haiti, orphans are still crying out for support and basic necessities as Haitian leaders seek to recover from the devastation of the January earthquake. Samaritan's Feet has partnered with New Life Orphanage in Port- Au- Prince to provide children with shoes, supplies, and the food they desperately need.

You can make a difference!  As a Samaritan's Feet volunteer, you will serve together with other team members to facilitate shoe distributions, foot washings, and humanitarian aid activities.

Bobby Smith Selected as Samaritan of the Month!

BSmith

Bobby Smith, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches, Texas, is passionate about reaching out to people in need.  Last fall, Pastor Smith partnered with students and the athletic department at Stephen F. Austin (SFA) State University to organize a shoe drive during a double header basketball game.

The drive raised hundreds of pairs of shoes and financial donations for Samaritan's Feet.  Although initially Pastor Smith intended to ship the shoes to Samaritan's Feet for international distribution, he soon realized that there were children in his own community who desperately needed shoes

In September, Samaritan's Feet helped Pastor Smith organize a shoe distribution for 275 local children.  Students from SFA University volunteered their time to measure the children's shoe sizes, wash their feet, give them new shoes, and share with them a message of hope.

"I was overcome with joy in watching university students wash children's feet, " said Pastor Smith.

"Another joy and heartbreak was also hearing several children ask, 'do I need to give these shoes back next week when I come back?'  What a joy it was to share with all those children how these new shoes were their shoes forever!"

Thank you Pastor Smith, for serving the underprivileged children in your community.  We are proud to designate you our Samaritan of the Month!

'BEAT THE STREETS' Brings Hope to Struggling CommunitiesBeattheStreets

With a murder rate 10 times the national average, the Lincoln Heights community in Washington D.C. faces hardships unfamiliar to many Americans.

Samaritan's Feet in partnership with Daybreak Ministries and the DC Metro Police Department are reaching out to this neighborhood and others to bring healing and reconciliation through the Beat the Streets Initiative.

Beat the Streets engages at-risk youth in a unique cultural experience which includes music, step teams, and connecting one on one with DC Metro PD and police cadets serving as Samaritan's Feet ambassadors.  At a recent event, 300 elementary aged children had their feet washed and received new shoes from these compassionate volunteers.

Four Beat The Street events were held throughout D.C. in 2010, with the goal to grow that number to six for 2011. If you live in the D.C. area and want to help at an upcoming Beat the Streets project, contact Gale Malone at gmalone@samaritansfeet.org.
