Thousands of Shoes and Supplies Arriving in Haiti!

In response to the catastrophic earthquake that struck Haiti this month, Samaritan's Feet and its partners -Food for the Poor, SCORE International/First Baptist Church Woodstock, and Gleaning for the World-- are supplying 100,000 pairs of new athletic shoes to Haiti.

Providing shoes will help protect the hurting from the dangers and disease that a natural disaster leaves behind.  Many individuals and businesses have already assisted Samaritan's Feet by providing air transportation, money, food, water, shoes, socks, and clothes.

The first air shipment to Haiti will leave Greenville, South Carolina  the week of January 25th.

"The people of Haiti are deeply suffering from this earthquake," said Manny Ohonme, President and Founder of Samaritan's Feet.  "The stories our partners have shared and the pictures and video that we are witnessing is beyond comprehension.  Our goal is to give them some hope through a new pair of shoes and meet their basic needs of food and medical supplies."

Haiti's government estimates over 200,000 people killed, 250,000 injured and 2 million homeless in a nation of 9 million.  This is an order of magnitude that demands our support. You can designate a gift to Haiti HERE!

For South Dakota State Basketball Coach Scott Nagy, coaching barefoot at the January 24th game against Oakland University took on  heightened significance after the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

Coach Nagy and his wife adopted their daughter Naika from Haiti in 2004 when  Naika was  2 1/2 years old.  The Nagy family has  stayed in contact with Naika's birth mother Marie, but since the earthquake two weeks ago, they have fervently tried to confirm Marie's whereabouts.  There has been no verification that she survived the earthquake.

"Communication with people in Haiti has been difficult before this earthquake, but now if will be even more difficult," remarked Coach Nagy.  "We will continue to pray for Marie with hope she is a survivor."

In partnership with Samaritan's Feet, Coach Nagy is using his platform as a "Barefoot for Bare Feet" Coach to raise $30,000 and 2,000 pairs of shoes for Haitian relief.

Standing in solidarity with Coach Nagy, the South Dakota High School Basketball Coaches will also coach a game barefoot.  All financial and shoe donations in South Dakota will be designated for Samaritans' Feet Haitian relief.

Coach's Nagy's efforts on behalf of Samaritan's Feet have been profiled in numerous media outlets.  To read more about Coach's Nagy's endeavor, click Washing 1
