Barefoot Again in 2010!
In 2008, IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis) basketball coach Ron Hunter partnered with Samaritan's Feet to raise awareness of the 300 million children who go without shoes everyday. On the anniversary of Martin Luther King's death, Coach Hunter coached a game in his barefeet to help raise money and shoes for Samaritan's Feet. His goal was to raise 40,000 pairs of shoes. However, within six weeks of coaching barefoot, he had raised more than 100,000 pairs!
In 2009 hundreds of basketball coaches across the country joined Coach Hunter in coaching barefoot. As a result, more than one million pairs of shoes and thousands of dollars were donated to Samaritan's Feet!
Since 2008, more than 500,000 pairs of shoes have been distributed to impoverished nations around the world and more than 10,000 pairs have been distributed domestically to struggling communities within the United States.
This year our goal is to raise another million pairs of shoes. If you are a basketball coach at any level, we ask that you help collect shoes and raise funds for Samaritan's Feet by joining Coach Hunter in coaching one game barefoot between January and March during the 2010 season. If you are not a coach but a student, parent or teacher, tell a coach that you know about our barefoot coaching movement. This simple act can make a huge difference in the lives of the millions of children who suffer everyday due to their lack of shoes.
If you are interested in barefoot coaching and would like more information, please contact Whitney Saucedo at 317--850-7710 or send us a message at http://www.samaritansfeet.org/contact.

A Journey of Love...

In June, Samaritan's Feet traveled to Peru with 18 volunteers and provided shoes to over 1,000 people in shantytowns and churches. At an orphanage for boys, the residents were blessed with food, birthday cake, games, music and dance. After washing their feet and giving them new shoes, many of the boys shared their stories of living on the streets. Lives were touched and transformed that night. In a shanty town village, over 500 people were blessed with shoes, sharing with the team their life journey of pain and loss. Over one thousand still waited in line for shoes at day's end. The team has made a pledge to raise $2,000 in donations to build a feeding and community center in Peru.
