Fun for Valentine's Day!cherry pie

You might not have known that I have a pie kit available. This kit includes a stainless steel pie pan, heart pie topper, and pastry cutter. (Click Here) The pie kit is fun for this month because you can make a heart pie!  Since this is the month of love, you can make a heart pie for your sweet heart or make a pie topped with hearts for your sweet children.

These pie toppers are so easy to use and will impress any guest at your expertise of making a beautiful pie!  See my blog for a step by step on making the heart pie! (Click here)

Another fun idea for the pie topper is using it as a stencil on your cake!  We frosted our cake and then lightly pressed the pie topper on the frosting.  It worked as a stencil to outline with your piped icing.  Kids think it is more fun to see decorations on their cake!  heart cake

Have fun!

Perfect French Bread!

from: Sensible Cooking Cookbook * (click here)french bread

4 cups warm water

4 T SAF yeast (click here)
6 T sugar or honey
2 T salt
1 cup oil
10-12 cups whole wheat white flour
4 T Dough Enhancer (click here)

Place all ingredients in Bosch Universal Plus bowl.  Knead thoroughly, about 8-10 minutes.  Let rise in bowl about 10 minutes, then punch down. Turning on Bosch mixer with dough hook will punch dough down.  Repeat 4 or 5 times.  Divide dough and shape into loaves or rounds.  Place on greased French loaf pan.  Slash tops with sharp knife and brush with egg wash.**  Let rise until doubled in size.  Bake 30 minutes at 400 degrees.

**Egg wash: A basic egg wash will give a shiny, golden look to the crust.  To prepare, beat together 1 egg and 1 T of water w/ a pinch of salt.

You can use the French loaf pan and make two wonderful long French loaves at a time!  (click here to see the pan!)

Recipes For Valentine's Day!

One Step Lasagna one step lasagna

from my sweet daughter in law

11/2 Box regular whole wheat lasagna noodles

1 1/2# hamburger or Italian season sausage

2 cans tomato sauce*

5 heaping T (or to taste) Pizza/Pasta Mix (click here) 24 oz. cottage cheese

18 oz. ricotta cheese

1/3 cup milk

2# shredded mozzarella cheese

Don't boil the noodles!  Brown/cook the meat; blend the tomato sauce with 3 T pizza/past mix, set aside 1/2 cup sauce, then mix the remaining sauce with the meat; blend/mix cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, milk and 2 T pizza seasoning.  Now, you simply layer the items: 1. Uncooked noodles; 2. Cooked meat; sauce combo 3. Cheese mixture.  You will do 2 cycles of the layering.  Then, noodles, sauce w/o meat and shredded mozzarella cheese.

Cover with foil. Bake 375 degrees for 1 hour 15 min.  Remove foil and brown 10 to 15 min.  If you let it set about 15 min. before serving the sauce will set up more and make a beautiful serving presentation.

*Del Monte tomato sauce has seasoning added and adds to the flavors.

**I used the pasta/pizza seasoning (click here)

This is the perfect time to use the stainless steel lasagna pan!  (click here)

Will be posting on Paula's Bread blog a larger lasagna recipe AND a fun story of my daughter in law's family using this recipe! :) (Click here to check out Paula's Bread Blog!)

Valentine Shaped Crouton!heart croutons

Add this to your salad and spruce up your salad adding romance to the dinner!

4 slices of bread, about 1/4" thick

2 T unsalted butter

2 T oil

1 T finely chopped parsley

Cut the bread into heart-shaped pieces.   Use a small heart shaped cookie cutter.   Heat the butter and oil in a frying pan over low heat.  Add the bread shapes to the pan in a single layer.  Saute on each side until golden, about 5 minutes.  Then, dip one side of the heart into finely chopped parsley.

Note from Paula: Okay so it is on the high calorie side but isn't it a fun idea! :)

Tips for the Harried Woman
God's love

This month is known for the month of love.  Usually, people associate this month with only couples but really we need to think love for all.  I would love to say love is so easy to do but it really doesn't come naturally.  We may have an emotional love but you know how fast our emotions change due to circumstances! Sigh.  So how can we have a consistent love?  By not looking for it within ourselves.   Just as the Encouraging Thoughts quote below talks about drawing from God's perfect love to flow through us, God who knows all about us and says, "I love you."  Letting Him love through us will help us to love others.  Perhaps our focus for this month of love can be to purpose to be a vessel of His to let His fruit of love pour out from us.   Let's not make it a one day activity or focus but turn it into a habit of change to be pouring out love.

 Encouraging Thoughts:

"Apart from God, 'the heart is deceitful above all things.' (Jeremiah 17:9),  a marriage-saving love is not within us.  A friendship-preserving devotion cannot be found in our hearts.  We need help from an outside source.  A transfusion.  Would we love as God loves?  Then, we start by receiving God's love.

We have been guilty of skipping the first step. 'Love each other!' we tell our churches,  'Be patient, kind, forgiving,' we urge.  But instructing people to love without telling them they are loved is like telling them to write a check without our making a deposit in their accounts.  No wonder so many relationships are overdrawn...Hearts have insufficient love.  The secret to loving is living loved.
