Pizza on a Grill!
Yes, you read the title right!! We used the basic bread recipe and made a pizza on a grill. It is FABULOUS!! In fact, I think it will replace our traditional all-American hamburger cookout. this Fourth of July! Making your pizza on the grill is not only tasty but fast. We fixed our meal in about 8 minutes! Some new ideas for Preserving Your Food!
This is the time to buy or pull our your dehydrator!! I have told you before but I would HIGHLY recommend the Profilter for dehydrating. Why? It is the only dehydrator on the market that filters the air before it blows over your food. Just think about the nasty air conditioning filters with all the dust and dirt that it has filtered from the air in your home! The Profilter dehydrator only allows cleaned filtered air to pour over your food. Click here to see more about this wonderful dehydrator!
Tomatoes are coming in abundance now. There is nothing like a fresh tomato! Pull out your dehydrator and dry them. You can dry them plain OR you can put seasonings on them. They are great to add to your salad all through the winter months. See my recipe below for dried tomatoes!
Cucumbers can be dried! Cut them about 1/4" thick. You can add a great flavor to them by sprinkling them lightly with garlic. They will taste like chips when dried. Yum.
Peas will dry into hard little balls that you will be able to throw into soups. The nutrition will be higher in the peas than frozen!
Blueberries! The season for blueberries is over for most states but these dehydrate beautifully. Simply wash them and fill the dehydrator tray. Dehydrated blueberries are great to add to pancakes and muffins. You will get the flavor and nutrition without compromising your recipe with the added water content in the blueberry.
Peaches, apples and pears are around the corner! I recommend peeling them first as the skin hardens when drying. You can dice or cut them in slices. These will all be great fruits to take on road trips or hiking. You can also make them into excellent pies. Click here to see my blog for an apple pie made with dehydrated apples!
Beef jerky is always a favorite to dehydrate. Have you ever looked at the label on your store beef jerky? There are enough preservative and additives to make your head spin. You can make your own beef jerky and keep it healthy.
Our family favorite is fruit leather. I made some banana/chocolate fruit leather the other day. Easy! See my fruit leather recipe below!

Fruit Leather!
Fruit leather or fruit roll ups are a great treat for the kids. The kind you get in the store are pretty pricey and full of sugar. You can easily make your own with a dehydrator. I like to use bananas as my base since they are relatively cheap. I then add what ever other fruit to give the fruit leather its unique flavor.
Here I made chocolate/banana fruit leather. Yum. How easy is that? Fill your Bosch Blender with ripe bananas and 4 T powdered cocoa; Blend; pour onto greased fruit leather tray. About 7 to 10 hours later, we had yummy fruit leather with no artificial colors/flavors!
I also use 6 oz. orange juice concentrate or pineapple juice concentrate to one blender full of bananas! This is an easy way to make more flavors. This is the best snack and great to take hiking!
"Sun-dried Tomatoes"
You can use other tomatoes but Roma tomatoes are the best to dehydrate because they have less seed and more meat. You don't have to have any seasonings but the below recipe does enhance the tomatoes. Use these dehydrated/sun-dried tomatoes in your salads, pasta selections. I will have later postings on my blog on using the dried tomatoes so keep checking the blog!
2# ripe Roma Tomatoes, halved 4 T sea salt* Pepper to taste 1 T dried basil
Lay the tomatoes face up in your dehydrator. Sprinkle with the herb mixture. Dehydrate. Will take around 7 to 10 hours. I would slice them in strips to make them ready for serving and you can store more in a jar. Once dried keep in mason jar. This would be your longer term storage method.
*I use sea salt as opposed to earth salt. Sea salt has minerals and is a natural salt that is good for you.
Several recipes recommend: Putting the dried tomatoes in mason jar with olive oil just covering the top of the tomatoes. Add a bay leaf, garlic slivers. These will stay in your fridge for up to 3 months.
Note from Paula: The key to all your dehydrated food is keeping it dry and away from light as the light will discolor the food product.
