Summer is just 120 days away! Our theme this summer is "Finding God in the Everyday." Be sure to register sooner than later as we are seeing record registrations! To date, one program Jr. High Adventure is FULL! Others still have room, however we anticipate many will be close to capacity by mid April. We have received a total of 81 campers in our programs.

Family Camp Coming To Pyoca!
Pyoca Family camp will be held August 12-14, 2011. This new program promises something for everyone as the whole family is invited out to Pyoca to share in a weekend of faith, food and fun. Show you've still got it as you challenge your 12 year old up the rock wall, build a sandcastle on the waterfront, teach your daughter the joy of fishing or wander on a quiet walk through the woods. With so many choices each member of your family is sure to find a new adventure and you'll have exciting stories to share and laugh about as we gather together for community meals and worship. For more information about this camp please visit Pyoca's website, or give us a call at the office (866) 251-2267. |
| Thank you to our donors!
We know that without the generous support from the presbyteries, churches, and individuals, our ministry would not be what it is today. Praying for our ministry, volunteering for a day, a week or monthly, and of course financial contributions are what make this ministry so vibrant. 2010 was another fantastic opportunity for ministry at Pyoca. 657 campers, and over 1,600 retreat guests experienced our hospitality, programs and our fantastic facilities.
We were blessed with contributions from the two presbyteries, congregations, and many individuals which helped grow our program. Last year, we received $258,097.21 in gifts. Of that, $180,403.45 was received for the capital campaign, $61,492.26 was given in unrestricted gifts, $10,572.50 was designated, and $5,629 was received from Presbyterian Women groups for scholarship assistance.
The list is growing! The individuals, congregations and presbytery support that we receive is incredible. If you are interested in becoming a partner in ministry with us, please contact us at 866-251-2267 to see how easy it is!
Thank you again for another incredible year! Click HERE for the list of congregations and individuals who supported Pyoca financially in 2010. |
Capital Campaign Update
Pledges and donations continue to arrive almost weekly! To date, over $830,000
has been raised! We currently have $311,115 available for the next project which is the dam renovation.
We are in the preliminary permit stages for phase 1 of the dam renovation. We anticipate this project will take two years to complete. We hope to begin work late summer or early fall which will renovate the spillway, replace the draw down pipe with a larger pipe, and cement the abandoned discharge pipe. Phase 2 will involve raising the dam 1.3 feet, and increasing the downstream slope from a 2:1 to a 3:1 slope, and constructing an emergency grass spillway. While this project will be cumbersome and lengthy, we are planning to do the majority of the work outside of the summer program. We estimate this project to be approximately $400,000.
Future projects which will be scheduled as funds are available include: replacing Cabin 1 with another youth friendly, year-round structure, replacing Cabin 6 with another adult friendly Cedar/Oak type Cabin, changing the craft cabin to a year-round craft cabin/meeting room, and eventually adding a 12-bedroom conference center.

Pyoca Awarded the Green Leaf SealThe offices of Environmental Ministries of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). and the Presbyterian Camp and Conference Association have awarded the Green Leaf Seal to Pyoca! The Green Leaf Seal is presented to camp and conference centers that care for God's earth by practicing sustainability and educating guests about environmental stewardship. To receive a Green Leaf Seal, a camp or conference center must have completed a total of five projects or activities in the areas of facilities, education/program, operations and outreach. Learn more about the Green Leaf Seal. Pyoca received this award from our work which included: the geothermal system for the Lodge, an energy audit by REMC, our environmental programming (Earth Loving Friends Camp), an on-demand water heater and the use of programmable thermostats. We plan to continue to improve our environmental stewardship in the future by replacing our lighting with more efficient fixtures, increasing our environmental education for summer and retreats, and continue to refine our recycling programs. |
