Carolina Stadium at sunset
Dear Carolina parent,

The spring semester is in full swing at the University of South Carolina! This is a busy time of year for most college students as they prepare for summer plans, think about housing for next school year, and look ahead to opportunities for the fall semester. Many opportunities for leadership are included in this e-newsletter, so please discuss them with your students.

Encourage your students to plan ahead for application deadlines and studying for mid-terms while making time to take care of themselves (eat healthy, get plenty of sleep, and exercise).

As always, please call the Parents Assistance Line at 1-800-868-6752 or send an e-mail to us at scparents@sc.edu if you have questions.

The "Case for Carolina"
University of South Carolina President Harris Pastides told legislators on Jan. 26 that USC accepts every academically qualified student from South Carolina and is educating more South Carolinians than any institution in the state's history.

Speaking before the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Higher Education, Pastides reaffirmed the University's commitment to accessibility and affordability and asked legislators to refrain from imposing caps on tuition and out-of-state enrollment and to preserve lottery funds for higher education.

"We fully understand that education is the foundation for success and meaningful lives, and we are committed to remaining responsive and responsible to the needs of our students and their families and our state," Pastides said. Read more>>

Monthly tips for parents
The Office of Parents Programs website has a new feature to help parents navigate the college experience at Carolina. Extensive monthly tips will be added throughout the year to help you stay updated on what you should be talking with your student about, things your student might be experiencing that month, and resources to help you with deadlines and questions you might have. If you have feedback on this new resource or suggestions for items that would help make this page more helpful, please let us know!
