Dear Carolina parent,
Happy new year! We hope that you were able to spend some quality time with your student over the holidays. The University of South Carolina is back in full swing, as the residence halls open Wednesday, Jan. 5, at noon, and spring semester classes begin on Monday, Jan. 10. As classes resume, encourage your student to take a renewed, invigorated look at his or her classes and involvement on campus as opportunities for new connections and improved academic performance. We encourage you as parents to continue becoming familiar with University resources so you can direct your student to the appropriate office or department for assistance as he or she learns to handle his or her own problems and concerns. As always, please call the Parents Assistance Line at 1-800-868-6752 or send an e-mail to us at scparents@sc.edu if you have questions. Happy new year from the University of South Carolina! {The photo above features student DJs at WUSC, the campus radio station. Encourage your student to visit the Student Organization Fair on Jan. 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Greene Street in front of the Russell House to learn how to get involved on campus!} | |

Carolina Alert system to be upgraded
On Jan. 5, the Carolina Alert system will be upgraded. Students will need to update their information and re-subscribe to Carolina Alert messages.
What this means for students:After Jan. 5, students should go to VIP and log in. Students will be presented with a series of screens to update their information. They should not skip these messages and should enter all available information to ensure the information is correct. If students select to receive alert messages via text messaging, they also will need to text the words JOIN USCSMS to a number presented to them on the VIP screen. It is only after they receive confirmation on their cell phone that students will be subscribed to receive text messages from the Carolina Alert system (text messages will come from the number 34292). For more information about the Carolina Alert system and other emergency procedures, click here. |
