Attention Out-of-State Parents!
The Student Success Center coordinates an out-of-state student mentoring program called Gamecocks Across America. Out-of-state students are matched with students from their hometown, home state or region of the country. These students serve as mentors and answer any questions your student might have during his or her first year. Click here to find out more!
University of South Carolina campus
Dear Carolina parent,

As the middle of summer approaches, here are a few tips and ideas for conversations to have with your student.

-Encourage your student to save a portion of his or her summer job earnings. Talk about how nice it will be to have some extra spending money throughout the school year.

-Discuss how new living arrangements will affect the upcoming school year. Encourage your student to have conversations with his or her roommate(s) about who is responsible for bringing certain items. Also, suggest that he or she begin organizing the things needed to take to school so packing in August is not overwhelming.

-Occasionally, students may express some loneliness for friends made at college. Discuss the value of your student's involvement on campus this past year and his or her plans for involvement next year.
