Long days are here! Pavement peeks out from winter's layers. Bird's egg blue skies beckon. Summer is not far off! Time to start thinking about gardening and "good food". Time to think about how good it feels to spend time in a Fairbanks garden. It is time to sign up for this year's local CSA!
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a partnership between a farm and a community of supporters which provides a direct link between the production and consumption of food. Members of a CSA cover a portion of the farm's yearly operating budget by purchasing a share of the season's harvest. Becoming a member of a CSA creates a responsible relationship between people and the food they eat, the land on which it is grown and those who grow it.
Each week during the summer you meet your CSA farmer at the selected location to pick up your box of delicious, locally grown veges. There are pick up locations and farms to choose from all over town.
Some offer the opportunity to visit the farm and work side by side harvesting fresh food to feed your family and your spirit. Others offer cookbooks, or newsletters and recipes with their farm share or a discount if you sign up by April 1.
There are family shares and half shares. Flower shares and salad shares. Pick a payment plan and location convenient for you.
If you have never owned a farm share this may be the year to start. It will feel good to take part in this community tradition while making our world a better place. Mostly, you'll feel good because local vegetables taste SOOOOOOO much better!
