Gold at the end of the rainbow,This is real, folks! Over the weekend, four applications for General Manager came in. It was exciting to talk "groceries" and quality local produce. Meanwhile, our BOD and volunteers are working hard to complete

grant and loan applications by the end of March. We COULD be starting renovation by July 1. Yet, there is still more work to do! We need more members!

Community Support from Co-op Market's member/owners is vital to this project's success. When we meet with commercial lenders, showing that we could reach our goal of 100 new members in March will speak volumes! (or founding members completing or paying toward their investment - click here to join now)

We already have 582 fully invested members. Thank you! We appreciate you.

But this week's message goes out to our 444 "founding members" who have invested at least $10. Are you ready to complete your investment or make a payment? This week, volunteers will be emailing and sending Facebook messages to our "founding members" to let them know about our March Member campaign.

On Thursday, March 17 we invite all to a St. Patty's Day "calling" party at the office from 6 to 8 pm. Be sure to wear some green. Call 457-1023.

Veggies Eat Fresh Local Food All Summer

Long days are here! Pavement peeks out from winter's layers. Bird's egg blue skies beckon. Summer is not far off! Time to start thinking about gardening and "good food". Time to think about how good it feels to spend time in a Fairbanks garden. It is time to sign up for this year's local CSA!

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a partnership between a farm and a community of supporters which provides a direct link between the production and consumption of food. Members of a CSA cover a portion of the farm's yearly operating budget by purchasing a share of the season's harvest. Becoming a member of a CSA creates a responsible relationship between people and the food they eat, the land on which it is grown and those who grow it.

Each week during the summer you meet your CSA farmer at the selected location to pick up your box of delicious, locally grown veges. There are pick up locations and farms to choose from all over town.

Some offer the opportunity to visit the farm and work side by side harvesting fresh food to feed your family and your spirit. Others offer cookbooks, or newsletters and recipes with their farm share or a discount if you sign up by April 1.

There are family shares and half shares. Flower shares and salad shares. Pick a payment plan and location convenient for you.

If you have never owned a farm share this may be the year to start. It will feel good to take part in this community tradition while making our world a better place. Mostly, you'll feel good because local vegetables taste SOOOOOOO much better!

Read our latest blog post for a complete list of local CSA's and food, gardening and agriculture related events. Email us to have your farm event or CSA added to the list.
