Greetings!

A couple months ago I got to watch my niece's basketball team in Martin, South Dakota play against the team from Wall.

The team from Wall were indomitable. Those girls played like maniacs. They wanted to win and nothing was stopping them.

But, one by one the starting line up were eliminated from play. The center fouled out, one star player sprained her ankle and another was taken from the floor with cramping muscles.

One would think that without the starting line up the team from Martin would have had a chance, but no, there were more amazing players waiting on the bench. Wall won the game that night with none of the starting line up left on the floor by the 4th quarter.

The team won because they had a "deep bench". When the main players were out of the game more strong players took their place.

If we want a community owned grocery store we too will need a "deep bench".

With more players we can achieve our goal of opening the Co-op Market in 2011.

There are many options for contributing to the cause of creating a cooperative grocery for Fairbanks. It can be as simple as volunteering to work at event tables or doing clean up at a fund raising breakfast. Or for a person with more time and energy we have committees and projects that need chairs.

All committee meetings are now on a regular monthly schedule. Click here to see the April and May calendars.
