Greetings!
Building a food co-op isn't just about building a grocery store. It is also about building a better community.
A week ago I spent a few days in a Himalayan Hill Town by the name of Kalimpong. We had the good fortune to walk around town on Market Day . The town was alive with activity. Villagers from nearby towns were there either selling or shopping.
Everywhere we looked people were shopping, selling, eating, or exploring a market bursting with produce, fruit, spices, bulk legumes, and all types of rice.
It dawned on me that every business in this market town was a small business and that the community was almost self sufficient. See complete article about Kalimpong here.
As a cooperative food market we can build relationships with other businesses to enrich our community and see more of the money spent in our community stay in our community. These partnerships are one step toward building a more sustainable and self-sufficient future for Fairbanks.

Partners In Business
Our Partners in Business program is designed to build reciprocal
relationships between FCCM and local businesses that will be beneficial
to both.
In the past people lived long healthy lives living close to the land and trading with others in their area and it is time to start thinking about how we can do this in the present.
Community ownership preserves and celebrates what is unique and local. We are asking local businesses and organizations to consider assisting us with our marketing efforts while at the same time promoting their own businesses.
There are many ways to do this and it could start at our Dessert Auction.
For more information about how to become a Partner in Business with FCCM email Evan at info@fairbankscoop.org.
Our office is located at 542 4th Avenue Suite 100B in the basement.
Office hours are Tuesday-Friday 1 pm to 5 pm.Call 457-1023

In Kind Service - another way to "Partner in Business" with FCCM.
One of the ways to participate in FCCM's Partner in Business program is to provide "in kind" service in trade, at a reduced rate or as a volunteer.
One example of this pops into my mind and that is the generous contributions of Sue Sprinkle of 5th Ave. Design and Graphics.
She is the genius behind our fun "raven series" of posters, stickers and all the ads you see in the paper and on television as well as the t-shirt design you see here.
A special thank you goes out to Sue Sprinkle for donating her time, energy and immense talent to FCCM.
You can find 5th Avenue Design and Graphics at 407 5th Ave. Call 452-4166 for graphic and logo design services.
