Greetings!

Another week has passed and our volunteers are working hard to spread the word about FCCM. Thanks to all those who are helping with the call drive and stopping by the Volunteer Center!

As we progress toward the creation of our food co-op we are pleased to announce an early membership benefit. Members who have made their full $200 investment in FCCM are eligible to receive the corporate rate at Sourdough Fuel. This discount is for auto fill customers only.

Just email us at info@fairbankscoop.org to find out the group number.

Are you a student or otherwise feeling the crunch this year? If so FCCM has a payment plan. Members can pay only $25 each quarter over two years or $50 each quarter ove one year.

When the store opens you will enjoy most of the benefits of full membership as long as your payments are current. Only voting privileges and the corporate rate for fuel at Sourdough Fuel are reserved for fully paid members.

Health and Wellness Education Springs into Action!

Opening a food co-op in Fairbanks isn't just about building a grocery store. FCCM's mission is also to educate and encourage sustainability.

The inaugural meeting of the Health and Wellness Education Committee was a smashing success with 11 people attending. This committee has some exciting plans for educating our community about food.

Essay on Sustainable Agriculture
by Mike Emers

"I didn't grow up on a farm.  When I was young, I never learned how to fix a screen door let alone a tractor.   I didn't know which end of a seed to plant in the ground.  If you had told me twenty years ago that I would own the farthest north certified organic farm in the country, I would have told you that you must be crazy......................Read Full Article Here

Mike Emers, one of our newly elected board members,
has been a grower of organic produce in the Tanana Valley for the past 12 years as the owner of Rosie Creek Farm.  As an organizer of the annual sustainable agriculture conference he is well versed in statewide and local agriculture issues.
Volunteers Needed!
tomatoes Building a co-op is a community project. It cannot be accomplished by a small group.

Many hands will make light work and we need YOU!

Evan, our volunteer coordinator, has a call list of our membership at the office with a goal of calling everyone on the list by November 14.

If you can stop by and help please email Evan at info@fairbankscoop.org
. The new office is located at 542 4th Avenue Suite 100B in the basement. Office hours are Tuesday-Friday 1 pm to 5 pm.

And for those who love to bake we still need desserts!

Volunteering can be fun too! This rowdy group of pirates spent an evening helping out with the call drive for KUAC.

Thanks to Sue Sprinkle for setting it all up

This is a labor of love. Each day brings us closer to our goal!

Thank you for being a member and helping us make a great food co-op for our community.
