Greetings!
An exhilarating drive to Delta Junction today and we are another step closer to having a food co-op. A group of board members took the day to meet with a former grocery store manager and talk shop. We came away with more knowledge, more kindling for ideas and new inspiration.
But, what exactly is a food co-op? To learn more about food co-ops here is some interesting reading material:
GoCoop is an educational yet fun website that gives a good description of cooperative structure. Link here to learn more about food retail co-ops.
And, how do we go about starting a co-op?
This very interesting site describes the ins and outs of How To Start A Food Co-op and has been a good guide for this process.
Are you eager to shop in our food co-op? For a taste of what a food co-op can be check out this website from the Wheatsville Co-op in Austin, Texas. One of our members traveled there a few weeks ago where she took the food co-op pictures you see on our website.
A cooperative exists for its members. The co-op I imagine is a fresh, inviting atmosphere full of good food, a welcoming staff, good customer care, and services like bulk ordering and bush orders; all in a small store that focuses on giving you the best food choices possible.
What do you envision for our co-op? Share your thoughts with us or spend some time working on this project with us. Read below for ways to volunteer.
