Insurance Tips - Lower Your Homeowners Insurance Costs
Times are tough, and homeowners insurance premiums can be costly. The following are some possible ways to reduce your homeowners insurance costs.
Increase your deductible: Increasing your deductible to the highest one you can afford will decrease your premium and increase the likelihood that your loss history will be excellent, since minor losses will be paid by you and not your insurance company. A loss-free record will save premium dollars.
Purchase a monitored burglar alarm: Alarms have proven successful in reducing burglary rates. Most insurers provide premium discounts if you have these alarms, some as high as 20%.
Maintain your home in optimum condition: Perform repairs as soon as possible. For example, if a roof shingle is loose or missing, repair or replace it immediately. A home in excellent condition is much less likely to experience a loss.
Package your home and auto insurance: Purchasing your home (or renters) insurance and auto insurance from the same company will usually get you a significant discount, typically up to 25%.
