Scituate Animal Shelter E-News
Dear Santa,
I've been very, very good this year. But my family couldn't keep me, so I don't have a home anymore. I am at the Scituate Animal Shelter now and I am warm and safe. The people who take care of me are kind. I get plenty of exercise, affection and healthy meals, and I had a check-up. Even though it is nice here, I miss being part of a family. This holiday, what I would REALLY like is a good home, forever. I hope that's not asking too much.
Sincerely, The letter above could have been "written" by any of the wonderful resident animals that are waiting to be adopted. Is there room in your heart and home? If so, please consider adopting a homeless animal. Besides adoption, there are many ways to support the Shelter's efforts to help homeless pets (below in green text) especially during this holiday season. Thank you for considering the Shelter in your year-end gift-giving, as we continue to pursue our mission of providing exceptional care and proper placement for the area's displaced animals. Happy holidays from "Our Family" to Yours!

Helpful Holiday Tips from Norwell Veterinary Hospital
Dr. Kelleher of Scituate writes:
"Winter is fast approaching here in the North East and as our dogs looks forward to frolicking in the snow, we need to be aware of some dangers that could befall our curious friends:
- As rodents seek warmth inside our houses, the use of rodenticides (in rat poisons) increases. These substances are highly toxic to pets and if ingested - the results could be fatal. If you feel the need to use these products, please use extreme caution and put them in places inaccessible to your pets.
- Many children are busy with Christmas crafts/projects which sometimes involve the use of chocolate kisses and other sweets. Remember that such delicious treats as chocolate and macadamia nuts (while only causing us to gain a few pounds) can be toxic or even fatal if ingested by our pets. Never leave any of these foods out around the house where curious and always hungry dogs (like my two labs) could get into them.
- Also remember that ethylene glycol-based coolants (antifreeze) are highly toxic to pets. When changing your car's engine coolant, clean up any spills immediately. Consider switching to the less toxic (but not completely non-toxic) propylene glycol-based coolants.
Especially for our outdoor feline friends, when cats are outside in the cold, they may crawl into your recently driven cars' engine for warmth. Before starting your car, make sure to bang loudly on the hood (or honk your horn) to scare any kitties away and avoid a potentially life threatening situation. Have a happy and safe holiday season! -From your friends at the Norwell Veterinary Hospital
