Greetings,
Here's a monthly update on what's happening at the club:
A new club "voice"
As mentioned previously, the club is bringing the focus back to our local community. In order to support that initiative a new brand was developed, which includes DBA as the "Phoenix Ad Club". The new brand will be reflected in our revamped web site and newsletter, which are in the works. Our new logo reflects a forward movement in the evolution of the local club while supporting our membership in the national organization. Become a part of the future of the Ad Club
As we give a new voice to the club, a key element plays a huge factor in the transition--YOU; our members and the community. Since the club is truly a volunteer organization, your involvement and engagement is needed to help the club become a viable community asset.
Here are some ways to get involved:
- Join a club committee
- The club is always looking for folks to share their ideas and time to better club operations and the community; for more information on club committees, visit our committee's page. In fact, planning for next year's ADDY event is right around the corner, to get involved on the committee for this flagship event, please contact the ADDY committee with your information.
- Join our board
- We are currently looking to expand our Board of Directors. A position on the club's Board of Directors is a community service project that impacts your profession and allows you to participate in a leadership role. If you'd like to submit a board application for consideration, click here.
- Provide feedback
- Your input is always welcome and appreciated to help make the club better. So if you have feedback on how we can make improvements, please feel free to share you thoughts, here. Also, if you have a news item you'd like to communicate in our newsletter/website, please be sure to submit your news for inclusion, here.
Get engaged
Last month's creative panel event "Think Big. Create Big." was an awesome event, and we hope you were able to attend and were inspired by some of the top leaders in our industry. We are planning similar programs to allow community leaders and top agencies the opportunity to share insights/knowledge and be involved. Be sure to check out the Local Industry Events section below for details on upcoming happenings, such as: Ad2sday, Tuesday August 21st at Brat Haus, the Ad Club Networking Mixer, August 23rd at 5th & Wine and Ad Bowl 2012, Tuesday, August 28th (no worries if you aren't a great bowler, seeing what agency teams are going to wear will be reason enough to attend!) Our Programs Committee will be sending a brief survey requesting your input on programs and events you would like to see. Your input will be greatly appreciated.
As always, I look forward to seeing familiar faces at our events and meeting new ones!
Best,
Mark Anthony Munoz
President

Thank you for your continued support and participation. If you have any questions, I can personally be reached at president@aafmetrophoenix.com. All comments, constructive criticism and suggestions to make the ad club better are welcome.

A Thought Leadership WebinarThursday, September 6, 2012
10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
When it comes to advertising, digital is king. It isn't just the extra point capping off a game winning touchdown drive -- it's the 80-yard bomb to the corner of the end zone. Digital isn't simply a piece of your ad campaign. It IS your campaign. Thanks to new innovations in digital technology (paired with an enormous availability of consumer insights), advertisers are reaching their target audience with lightning speed and pinpoint accuracy. Yes, Madison Ave. seems to have found its renewable source of energy ... in Silicon Valley. But as digital advertising grows, so too does a dependency upon technology to meet client advertising goals -- a dependency which brings forth a new dilemma for agency creatives: To what extent should technology dictate creativity -- or should it at all? Moses Anshell adds two players to team
Moses Anshell has added two talented members to its staff of entertaining personalities. Dominic Celico joins MA as Vice President of Finance while Jared Hill will flex his creative muscle as a copywriter. Moses Anshell is proud to welcome both to the coolest office in downtown Phoenix.
Dominic Celico, Vice President of Finance
Dominic has 20 years of experience in finance but he shatters the stereotypical mold for a CPA. Yes, he's a numbers guy and a member of the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accounts, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Arizona State Board of Accountancy Peer Review Oversight Committee. But the Kent State University grad is a fun loving guy who fits in perfectly with the non-traditional staff at Moses Anshell. He's a reality TV star, having appeared on "When Women Rule the World." Of course, the show never aired in the U.S. so we'll have to take his word on this.
Jared Hill, Copywriter
Jared doesn't just use words. He understands deep-rooted problems from their childhood. He may be the only copywriter in America with an undergraduate psychology degree from George Mason University. Jared added an M.S. in Mass Communication from Virginia Commonwealth University's prestigious Brandcenter. He landed his first advertising job in Fort Myers, Florida, and (wisely) decided to ditch the bugs, humidity and early bird dinners to head west and start a new life in Phoenix. As Jared says, his life is "like one of those old-fashioned Hollywood happy endings ... but in the desert."

MundoFOX, which will air on KEJR-TV Channel 40 in Phoenix, is a partnership between Los Angeles-based Fox International Channels and Colombia-based RCN Television Group. Phoenix Business Journal Read more ...

Inside Facebook's push to woo big advertisers
After joining Facebook as vice president of marketing last year, Carolyn Everson made it her mission to win over skeptical ad executives who complained that spending on the giant social network wasn't paying off.
At the time, many companies were using the site to promote brands on their own Facebook pages-but most were paying little to nothing to do so. While Facebook was starting to push more paid notices, it was unclear whether such ads actually led to purchases. The Wall Street Journal Read more ...
Hispanic Chamber studies whether pols "speak our language"
The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is tracking Spanish-language political ad outreach in 10 states with large Hispanic populations. The "Speak Our Language" campaign will use data from Kantar Media's Campaign Media Analysis Group and is based on the premise that Spanish-language media outlets get disproportionately less political ad revenue than general marketing spend. USHCC President and CEO Javier Palomarez says the chamber will "hold 2012 campaigns accountable for their commitment to the country's Hispanic communities." Illusion of instantaneous Olympic ads gives AT&T and Visa buzz
BBDO was able to incorporate Olympic footage and finishing times into AT&T commercials only hours after the contests, eliciting social media buzz. "It was interesting for viewers to see a big brand advertise in a way that's so up-to-the-moment," said BBDO Creative Director Greg Hahn. The illusion of spot spontaneity for brands such as AT&T and Visa came via a combination of the telecast's tape delay and tedious production of takes where, for example, dozens of possible time outcomes were filmed.
