Greetings,
On occasion, I've been known to mention "I'll take heat over humidity any day." This past week supported that proclamation. I attended the 2012 AAF National Conference: ADMERICA! in Austin, Texas and can definitely say I now appreciate our "dry heat" even more.
Though I had to do a few "J-Lo" outfit changes, the national conference was awesome! Attendees represented clubs, advertising professionals and students from across the nation.
At the conference it was announced that Phoenix will be the host of ADMERICA! in June 2013 at the Arizona Biltmore. Mark you calendars now, it will be an event you won't want to miss!!!
ADMERICA! was a jammed-packed event which included national speakers, networking and break-out sessions on topics such as: music in advertising, digital media, live events, sports marketing, social media and cross-culturalism. The conference culminated with the crowing of the winners of the Student NSAC and National ADDY Award competitions. Congratulations to the winners from our local market that represented us on a national stage.
Speaking of events, details for our upcoming Creative Panel will be coming soon. We're doing things a little differently this time by enlisting top local Creative Directors to discuss the state of the Metro-Phoenix advertising market, trends and ideas on where our industry is heading and let you submit questions in advance that you'd like included in the discussion.
Finally, as mentioned at this year's ADDY Gala, we're bringing the focus back to our local ad club. We've revised our bylaws and will soon be rolling out a new brand to reflect our local market.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming Creative Panel, bi-monthly networking mixers and other events to build our community.
Best,
Mark Anthony Munoz
AAFMP President

Thank you for your continued support and participation. If you have any questions, I can personally be reached at president@aafmetrophoenix.com. All comments, constructive criticism and suggestions to make the ad club better are welcome.

Ad Club bylaw revisions Revisions to the club's bylaws were presented and approved by a majority vote from the membership. The goal of the revisions was to bring the organization's Bylaws and processes of the board current and consistent with best practices of non-profit organizations. Resources from the Lodestar Center for Non-Profits at ASU, and BoardSource, were consulted for these revisions. While not a total revision, following are the notable changes made that were approved by the majority membership: - Name change from AAF Metro Phoenix to "The Phoenix Ad Club, member of AAF"
- Board of Directors and Officer term limits were changes from one-year to two-year terms
- Term limits for Board Members limited to no more than 4 consecutive years of service (two full terms), unless elected to serve as president in final year
- Secretary and Treasurer positions may be combined into one position
- Board of Directors are elected by a majority membership vote; Executive Officer positions (President, VP, etc) will be elected by the Board from the membership-approved Board roster
These changes will allow for greater consistency in leadership and smoother functioning of the organization, without the distraction of a change of leadership each year. To view the updated bylaws, click here. |
