January 2012

Wow, 2011 flew by in a blink of an eye. And with each New Year, goals are set for reinvention, personal improvement and of course professional success.

Your ad club has also set goals for reinvention. In our planning we've identified our shortcomings and have given a lot of thought on how we can do things better.

One thing we strive to be more successful at is becoming an information resource for our community. A huge part of that effort will be providing information from top industry leaders on a regular basis. In this newsletter you will find an article by Susan D. Brienza, Esq., Ryley Carlock & Applewhite who shares insights on FTC Guidelines & Social Media Advertising.

This year's ADDY entries were a direct reflection of the many successes achieved by our local market. The quality of entries was well above par and proved that we can give "the big guys" a run for their moneyThe judges sure had their work cut out for them

Speaking of judges, be sure to check out this year's judge's bios; they were a top-notch bunch. I am super stoked for the ADDY Gala where our winning entries will be announced and celebrated.

As we celebrate the accomplishments of 2011, we wish you continued success in achieving the goals you have set in motion for 2012 and strive to also make our transformation towards a revitalized club a huge success.

Best,

Mark Anthony Munoz

This year's search for judges was no exception, our judges encompass proficiencies in multiple areas of expertise and represent some of the top agencies in the country to make the connections and understand how ideas and creativity can combine for powerful results.

In the Know: Industry Resources

FTC Guidelines & Social Media Advertising

Most people believe that for the good of the marketplace and fair commerce, weSBrienza all need truth in advertising. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is our federal agency dedicated to consumer protection-to shield the American consumer from false, misleading, or unsupported claims. Many promotional claims are in the form of Endorsements-including expert or celebrity endorsements-- including many of them paid. How can truth in advertising be safeguarded on the Internet, with all sorts of bloggers writing rave reviews for $5?

Because this is an important aspect of advertising, the FTC prepares a Guide solely on Endorsements, and especially recommending disclaimers or disclosures for the consumer that are necessary to prevent the Endorsement from being misleading or deceptive. The FTC certainly realized a few years ago that social media advertising and promotional networking had exploded. Since the last Guide on Endorsements was in 1980, in June 2010, FTC updated this Guide, to include: Facebook, blogs, Twitter, social networking. For full article, click here.
