THE PREZ SAYS...
The end of the fiscal year is upon us and I applaud the efforts of this year's Board of Directors who have made significant foundational changes to the infrastructure of club operations. A new accounting firm and accounting principles are in place to assure sound fiscal practices. A professional media planning/buying service oversees the AAF MP Media Partnership Program which works to secure media for non-profit organizations as part of our community service project. A new Sponsorship Program launches this month to include a student scholarship program that is open to all advertising and communications students at the college level. We have polled the members on numerous occasions and reformatted the monthly member programs to better meet your expectations.
The eNewsletter has received positive feedback and we've stepped up general communications to the industry at large. This year's ADDY® winners and ADDY Gala were proactively promoted to the media in advance of the event - complete with the Winners List - and received tremendous media coverage. And, at your request, AAFMP's high-cost luncheons have been balanced with new and emerging Mix It Up! Networking events and Educational Workshops. Finally, the new awards for Creative Director of the Year, Photographer of the Year, and the People's Choice were met with resounding enthusiasm.
What is the future of the Phoenix ad club? Well, the club still has a lot of work to do to assure that member benefits and programs are both timely and relevant. And we're taking a look at whether the ADDY Gala format meets the expectations of the agencies. Creative Directors will soon receive an invitation to attend a planning session for next year's ADDY event to tell us how you'd like your ADDYs to be run, including selection of judges, submission process, awards/trophies, and the Gala presentation. AAFMP will implement all the details but the advertising community will have a strong hand in guiding the process.
Mark Munoz, owner of Ripe Creative, is your incoming president for 2011/2012 and the new Board of Directors take office in May. The club is actively seeking members of the advertising community who will serve as advocates for the betterment of the club and assume an active role as a catalyst for change in the upcoming year. This is NOT an advisory position, but rather an action-oriented board who are empowered to oversee committee work and make a positive impact. If you would like to be part of evolution of AAF Metro Phoenix, and/or perhaps serve on the Board of Directors or in a committee role, please email me at president@aafmetrophoenix.com. All comments, constructive criticism and suggestions to make the ad club better are most welcome and quite frankly needed. This is your ad club!
Cheers to your continued success,
Pamela Loughman AAFMP President

Email Turns 40!
If you think email communication is a bit old school, you're right! The technology became available in 1971 before disco was popular! While its format is being outpaced with texting, instant and Facebook messaging, email is still being used as a useful and widely accepted form of communications.
Before you hit the send button on your next email, review some of the major marketing mistakes small businesses make with their email communication in this article, Six Common E-Mail Marketing Mistakes Small Businesses Make by Tom Wasserman (Mashable) - AAF SmartBrief 3-24-11.
TV Ad Dollars Seen Returning to Pre-Recession Levels TV ad revenues are on track to return to pre-recession levels next year, as advertisers continue to depend on the medium despite strong growth in online marketing, according to eMarketer. In fact, television is leading the way for the U.S. ad market, with other media recovering but not as quickly, due in part to the continuing decline of newspapers and magazines. Oxygen Media and MTV Sign Partnership with GroupMe Two media giants are among the advertisers signed on for GroupMe's new Featured Groups service, Oxygen Media and MTV. The company says the tool will let brands target like-minded friends by joining in on their conversations using its group messaging application. MTV plans to use the feature to promote its "America's Best Dance Crew" with a contest that will let groups chat with one of the show's cast members. ClickZ (3/28), Adweek (3/28).
Snapple Teams with "Amazing Race" The Snapple brand is being integrated into the CBS show "The Amazing Race," with Snapple featured in a recent episode that showed contestants traveling between China and India. The episode also gave rise to a new limited-edition Snapple flavor Papaya Mango Tea. MediaPost Communications/Marketing Daily (3/28).
Secure your Facebook WiFi Connection There is a new Facebook security feature that will encrypt your session so that you won't fall victim to attacks such as Firesheep, which can hijack your session while you are connected to an unsecured WiFi link.
Firesheep can steal your sessions, pretend to be you, and you won't even know it. The encryption security feature is accessed through your Facebook Account Settings. In less than two minutes, you can turn the security feature on and protect yourself from a hijacker. Follow the easy step-by-step instructions here.

The hearings were generally encouraging for advertising, with widespread acknowledgement of the benefits to consumers and companies of online behavioral advertising. Policymakers were also very positive about the Digital Advertising Alliance's new self-regulatory program. AAF is on the board of the DAA. However, there were still calls for more government involvement and legislative action. More information.
