Pattabhi Jois often said that Ashtanga Yoga is Patanjali Yoga . . .By this he meant that the method he taught was a technique that served the path of Classical Yoga as outlined in the philosophical treatise The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. For the yoga practitioner, a study of the sutras hastens the commitment to daily yoga practice and inspires a search for an accomplished teacher as well as a community of committed practitioners. The text supports the aspirant's understanding that yoga is a traditional science, delineating a keen and discerning analysis of the methods and experience of freedom from bound to liberated awareness. Pattabhi Jois quoted from this text often, demonstrating that Yoga practice and sutra study go hand in hand. se this section to describe your event in full. The Path to Padmasana
This led Primary class focuses on the finishing sequence especially the final Padmasana or lotus position and the quality of breath and attention. The valuable finishing asanas pacify the nervous system and prepare the mind for a steady and powerful padmasana experience, yet they are often rushed through and overlooked. Correct Padmasana is the seat for the eventual Yoga Experience. This class imparts the principles for a balanced and complete Yoga practice.
AM Session 2 hours - 10 am to 12 Noon
Chanting the Yoga Sutras Practice and its obstacles Sruti Parampara is the traditional method to learn Sanskrit chanting. The student learns through listening closely and responding to the teacher in call-and-response chanting. We will review the sounds of the Sanskrit alphabet and chant the opening and closing mantras of the Ashtanga Yoga tradition. We will then chant the first 16 sutras of Patanjali's second chapter on Sadhana, or practice. This chapter introduces yoga practice and its purpose: the Yoga experience and the elimination of fundamental obstacles. These obstacles are delineated and their source is defined, as is the method for their alleviation. PM Session 2.5 hours - 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm |
