It all starts this Friday, August 7th at 6pm with the Opening Reception of two new exhibitions at the ICA.

Ice Floeis a solo exhibition featuring a large-scale, immersive sculptural installation, and multi-media prints and paintings by mid-career artist, Christel Dillbohner. Referencing the melting glaciers of the Arctic and Antarctic regions, Dillbohner's Ice Floe presents a visual exploration of humanity's impact on the natural environment. On view in the Focus Gallery and Cardinale Project Room through September 20th. Please see the Special Programming details below for featured Artist Talks with Christel.

Next New:Green,  exhibition view

NextNew:Green, our bi-annual exhibition features the work of emerging talent including: Michelle Blade, Colette Campbell-Jones, Misako Inaoka, Vanessa Marsh, Carson Murdach, Sandra Ono, Ryan Pierce, Rebecca Rothfus, and Michael Ryan. This year's show surveys fresh perspectives on climate change and related environmental and conservation issues. On view in the Main Gallery through September 20th.

Night Moves, after-dark programming in the ICA's front windows presents Gail Wight's National Agenda - part eco-political activism, part Theater of the Absurd. On view through September 30th.

Then, stay 'til late and join us for the South First Friday Gallery Walk. The San Jose Jazz Festival kicks off its weekend-long fete with its Jazz Beyond Stage at S. 1st and Market We're also celebrating with artist Jose Arenas at the unveiling of his wonderous mural at San Salvador and South First Street.

Please join us on Monday, August 10th for a Conversation with the Christel Dillbohner at the Hotel Montgomery in downtown San Jose.  Christel will present a retrospective look at her expansive body of work produced over the the past 30 years.

4:30pm - 5:45pm:  Special after-hours viewing of Ice Floe in the ICA Focus Gallery 

6pm - 7pm: Join Christel Dillbohner and ICA Executive Director Cathy Kimball for a reception on the outdoor patio @ Mosaic Restaurant located in the Hotel Montgomery, 211 S. First St., a short walk from the ICA.*                                                         

7pm - 8pm: Artist Talk and slide presentation in the Historic Lobby of the Hotel Montgomery

* 15% of selected Monday, August 10th food and beverage sales will be donated to the San Jose ICA by Mosaic Restaurant as part of Mosaic's "Easy Giving Mondays" program for non profit and arts organizations.

Artist Conversation and Dinner at the Headlands Center for the Arts: Visual Eco-Criticism: Katie Kurtz in conversation with Barry Underwood, Christel Dillbohner & Christine Lee

What does the green movement mean for art and vice versa? Bay Area writer and environmentalist Katie Kurtz considers this question via a practice she has coined "visual eco-criticism." Kurtz considers the work of photographer Barry Underwood , German installation artist Christel Dillbohner, and multidisciplinary, San Francisco-based artist Christine Lee as case studies to directly test her thesis.
$10 General Admission, free for Headlands and San Jose ICA Members Dinner $20 per person ($15 for Headlands Members)
