Tip of the month No Canadian Experience | Newcomers learn very quickly how difficult it is to get a job with no Canadian experience. It is true that many employers prefer to hire someone that has worked in Canada before. That does not mean it is impossible to find a job in your area of expertise. The key is communicating your accomplishments from back home, in a way that is meaningful to Canadian employers. Quantifying your accomplishments into dollars or time saved, percentage of increased efficiency or decreased turnover and/or awards that distinguish your performance from others - will make your resume stand out and speak to Canadian employers. For example: Superior product knowledge resulted in monthly sales 20% higher than staff average. This is an accomplishment of a hairdresser from India. Everyone has accomplishments no matter what industry they work in. The task is wording them on your resume in a way that is meaningful to Canadian employers. Melissa Magder, M.A. | |
