United Way Campaign Tops Goal

The United Way of Mifflin-Juniata held their annual Campaign Dinner on March 24th at the Lewistown Country Club marking the end of the fundraising campaign. Executive Director of the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata, Marie Mulvihill, joyfully announced to the community that the 2011 goal of $575,000 had been exceeded by $518. The many businesses, organizations, and individuals who helped reach this goal were thanked for their efforts.

"United Way dollars stay in the community to enable us to deliver our mission to make measurable improvements in people's lives," said Marie Mulvihill, Executive Director. Money raised during the 2011 campaign will be allocated to community agencies for use from July 2011 through June 2012. To see where the money goes check out our annual report here

$226,168 returned to the community through VITA!

United Way of Mifflin-Juniata offered the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) initiatvie which is a free tax preparation and filing service to help eligible wage earners receive the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) & Making Work Pay Credit.

221 returns were prepared by 7 local IRS certified volunteers who helped area taxpayers receive a total of $226,168 in refunds. The volunteers donated their time to save those taxpayers $21,808 in tax preparation fees. Appointments were available to suit a variety of taxpayer scheduling needs in both Juniata and Mifflin counties.
