This Sunday, our Lead Pastor Dean Inserra finished our series called "Suburban Legends" examining what the bible has to say about the belief that "God Won't Give You More Than You Can Handle." There is a way of doing life in suburban America that has almost become its own religion, with the development of a pretty twisted theology. This month, we'be been looking at the truth (and lack of truth) behind many Suburban Legends. We hope you can join us at 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., or 6:00 p.m.

City Speak
by Danielle Gouletas
First Impressions Intern
If you would've asked me growing up if I was a Christian, I would've always told you "yes." I grew up going to church, youth group, Christian events and so on. I always went through the motions, but my faith was completely separate from my actual day-to-day life. I thought being a good person and simply believing in God was sufficient. It wasn't until my sophomore year of college when I got to a point in my life where I finally turned to God and started throwing myself into the word, when he started opening my eyes and revealing to me how life and faith are not separate, that without faith I'm not yet alive.
It was a revelation that this life here on Earth is so temporary compared to where we will remain for eternity. And while we are temporarily here our ultimate purpose is to glorify God and to serve His people. Having this assurance that the creator of the universe is in control of everything and all we have to do is be willing to trust and obey Him, has changed my life.
My prayer has become that the Lord will continue to change my heart and my mind to focus on Him and His will and not on my own! My own ways of thinking or my own plans, now seem trivial and unworthy compared to His plans for me! My plans often revolve around myself and my wants, and His plans are deep and mysterious and have a great purpose for His kingdom. I've decided to get baptized because I want to be obedient to God's calling for my life and this is a physical way to show that obedience to both God and my church. I'm so excited to be baptized at City Church, even having been a part of this church for such little time, the people here have shown me so much compassion and love and have been a big encouragement in my own walk with Christ!
(Danielle is originally from Chicago, Illinois and moved to Tampa, Florida. She is going into her third year of college at Florida State University, where she studies Marketing. She began attending City Church in January of 2012, and currently serves as the First Impressions Intern.)
