This past Sunday, City Church launched its first official Youth Group! I had been praying and planning for this day since before Easter. It was a fun and memorable night, but the day has come and gone and now is the time to pray and plan for what is to come. I told the eleven youth who attended our launch the other night that we leaders are going to invest our lives with all that we can into theirs. Nobody was forced to be there, rather, each leader came with the desire to serve the youth of City Church. Our chief hope for pouring into them every week is to develop a youth ministry that will be driven by reaching those who haven't come and known Christ yet! This is the sort of foundation I hope to build in our youth:
- A yearning to make the good news of Jesus applied in every aspect of their lives.
- A yearning to reach their friends who are lost and spiritually dead in this world.
- A yearning to serve each other as the church instead of merely attending and leeching the life of the church.
These are but a glimpse of my hope for City Church Youth, and you should notice that it is no different than Pastor Dean's vision for City Church as a whole. The youth are not some separate entity that exists apart from the rest of us. They will be among you and serving you and I pray that you will choose to serve them as well. Before we even started breaking up into small groups, I have had to find new leaders within our volunteers to lead new small groups -currently: Guys, Middle School girls, High School girls. My greatest prayer and anticipation is that we always have a constant "problem" of growth in this ministry!
We are beginning a series this Sunday night called, "What is the Gospel?" and you can pray for the next/current generation of Tallahassee changers to understand exactly what the good news of Christ is and how they can be a part of turning this city upside down through the Gospel!
