[City Speak]
By: James Parsons, Director of Excitement
I hope this article finds you in a good place. I want to share with you myexperience with City Church community groups. This candid story might just be something that you can relate too. Most off my childhood Sunday mornings consisted of being dropped off
at Sunday school. I didn't mind Sunday school that much. We had a snack and a quick lesson and then before I knew it, it was over. I didn't always pay that much attention. I have always been a fan of social promotion. (just kidding). For the most part it was always tolerable. My story is semi-basic. I never had years of rebellion against God or the church. What I did experience is a state of confusion. I got to the point where I was too old to be dropped off somewhere. I had realized that being in a personal relationship with Christ meant that I didn't have to follow a bunch of rules or regulations. I knew that I could experience the freedom of the Gospel without my own merit. I think you can also tell how smart I thought I was.
I never knew until recently how impactful the power of being in community and in prayer with other Christians would have on my life. I have been going to a City Church community group for the last six weeks. Yes sadly, the era of my life without a steady community group lasted for several years. I am a certified believer in joining with others to discuss matters that matter the most. Every week we end with a time to pray for one another and it completely warms my heart. I am convinced that God has used Lee Ellzey and Matthew Robinson to change my perception towards joining a group. Lee is the group leader and Matthew is a faithful attendee and host of our Monday night group. They never gave up on inviting me. My challenge is to try a group out and see what it is like. It is never too late. My Monday nights have gone from watching re-runs of Seinfeld to being a part of a weekly experience that I look forward to the most. |
