This Sunday, we continue with our summer series, "The Minors." During both services, we will also be celebrating the Lord's Supper with our church family. Pastor Dean will be preaching through the book of Haggai, where we will get to understand God's greater purpose for the work He has planned for us on earth. You will not want to miss one second of this exciting series! We hope you can join us this Sunday at 11:15 a.m. or 6:00 p.m.

,City Speak
by City Church Lead Vocalist, Todd Doss
A few weeks ago, Judi (my wife) was thumbing through some of the old journals she had written. When stumbling across one entry, she asked me if I remembered who Morgan Perkins was. I said yes, but I was completely confused as to why she would know her. You see, Judi and Morgan never met, but I had asked her if we could begin praying for Morgan back in 2005. Morgan had been married 5 weeks at the time and was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. I remember being crushed hearing the news because literally her life had just begun. I can't say exactly why we didn't keep in touch beyond that point. The best I can surmise is that life is busy, and we tend to give our attention to pressing matters that are here and in our daily lives. Curious to catch up and find out how she was doing, I tried to call the only number I had for her, then looking on Facebook to no avail and local phone books for the city she last lived but had no luck. On a whim, thinking she was probably doing some awesome music therapy program at a big hospital somewhere, I did a google search. I had finally found her on a most unusual website, findagrave.com. As it turns out, she did not win her battle with cancer, and after 18 months of fighting, Jesus took her home. She was only 24 years old. Even now as I type this it still makes me emotional. Not only for her loss, but for how many people in my life I take for granted. If God would take her so quickly then what does that say about anyone else I know? I always assume that my friends, family, and wife will always be here tomorrow. To quote my good friend Garth Brooks "If tomorrow never comes, will she know how much I love her." More importantly, if tomorrow never comes, did I do everything I could to make sure they know there is only one way to heaven? God did not create us to simply "live life" but to live a life that glorifies him that our light may shine among men. I often underestimate the impact my choices and influence has in other's lives. Do not make the same mistake. Your circle of influence is larger than you think. Our time is short so love big, proclaim boldly, and cherish each day given. Love you Church. "Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." - Matthew 5:16 "Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes." - James 4:14 |
