This Sunday - Zephaniah and Baptisms

This Sunday, we continue with our summer series, "The Minors." Directly following each service, we will be celebrating baptisms here at City Church.

Our Lead Pastor, Dean Inserra, will be preaching through the book of Zephaniah, where we will get to understand how Christ rejoices for our salvation through Him. You will not want to miss one second of this exciting series!

We hope you can join us this Sunday at 11:15 a.m. or 6:00 p.m.

Who or what do you find your joy and strength in?

This is definitely a question I ask myself about 20 times a day. As a 21-year-old college girl, it is so easy to get caught up in the "stuff" this world has to offer. The problem with that is the fact that these things do not last forever.

I find joy in sitting down to dinner with my family. I find joy in watching the Bachelorette with my friends on Monday nights (no shame). I find joy in coming home and taking a much-needed nap from school. I find joy in meeting new people anywhere and everywhere. I find joy when a bride picks her dream wedding dress from my store (yes, I'm a bridal consultant outside of being Matthew's assistant). I find joy in my new iPhone. I find it in making others happy. I find it in my London trip for the fall. I find it on a night out at Midtown. I find it in how others view me.

I NEED to find it in Christ.

Jeremiah 17:5-8 says, "Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord. They are like stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future. They will live in the barren wilderness, in an uninhabited salty land. But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.

These words remind me of God's unwavering strength. Looking back at the list above (which could go on and on and on), I often wonder what my response would be if any of those things were gone tomorrow. How would I react? Where would I put my comfort? Now, nothing from that list is bad. Yes, some are worth more to me then others, but the truth is that no matter what happens to those people or that stuff, God is still God, and His love for you and me does not change. Ever.

The stuff of this world can let us down. The plans you thought you had for yourself can take a new direction (trust me, I have changed my major 7 times). Nonetheless, the One who died for every single person is constant, and He yearns for our joy to be in Him. In all I do, I want my life to reflect God's extremely undeserving grace He has given me by putting my strength and happiness in Him that created both for His good.
