Service is Worship

If you've been to City Church or have any sense of ownership at all in our church community, you'll know that music isn't the only form of worship. We are big about this here. You'll constantly hear from the stage that worship takes a myriad of forms - giving, singing, dancing, praying, studying God's word, and living a godly life that includes service to the church and others.

I think there has been a misconception about the status of volunteering on a Sunday. It should never be a chore to do or a speed bump in your day. If it becomes that, or is that, then we don't want you to be here because you are burnt out and need rest and your heart is not in the right place and needs realignment. If people truly understood what it could mean for a person to give up their time to serve others, then our Sunday First Impressions team would look much different. By different, I mean that instead of me having to (scarcely) schedule people to volunteer on a Sunday, I'd have to schedule people NOT to volunteer on a Sunday because there would be an overwhelming number of City Church members with an insatiable desire to serve others rather than only to be served. City Church members would show up early Sunday mornings mentally ready and spiritually astute to take on the day's demands. City Church members' joy in serving their church would spill over onto everyone around them creating an irresistible environment for first time visitors and those unsure about whether or not they want to follow Jesus. Visitors would see Jesus' passion in the church and desire to be involved in City Church, thus growing as believers. This is only a glimpse of what could happen if you start to see service to the church as a ministry rather than a burden.

Service in the church, in this particular case, First Impressions, is so important and cannot be overlooked by you. Imagine if you walked up to the warehouse one Sunday and there was nobody at the door to say good morning, no coffee, no way to get questions answered at the info desk, no clean bathrooms or floors, etc. How cold and disheartening of a place would that be? I'm thankful Jesus didn't just stay home to get that extra hour of sleep but rather humbled himself and came down as a lowly man to live a perfect life and die in the place of us.

I challenge you to start praying about getting involved, so that you can experience humble worship in the form of service. In two months when the fall semester is in motion, City Church will need A LOT more members to step up than it currently has now. We do First Impressions as worship to Jesus who first served us, and we'd love you to come experience this with us!
