City Speak

by James Ramsey "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11 Defeating Uncertainty
Recently in my walk, I have come upon a great amount of uncertainty. The Major League Baseball draft was always a day I had dreamed of, to have a chance to live out a career in professional baseball. Early Tuesday morning, I started receiving calls from many teams about the possibility of being drafted. I ask myself, am I ready to forgo my senior year at FSU? To leave a place I have come to call home and begin traveling the country without anyone or anything of comfort to me? My level of uncertainty was rising as the phone calls came in. With this in mind, I began to look back at sermons Dean has given, conversations I have had with mentors in my faith, and passages I have read. They all lead to Jesus.
For me to think I know what is best would be following myself, not Jesus. Perhaps I need more time in Tallahassee; maybe it is my calling to enter the next phase in my life. But God's ministry is God's ministry after all, not my own. All I can do is continue to look at the living and breathing Word. Verses like Jeremiah 29:11 assure me that God knows my future and that he will take care of me. And because my blessings are so many, to have the most amazing community of believers, all I can continue to do is fight uncertainty with certainty. How? I feel like the certainties in my faith far outweigh the uncertainty my future holds. Like how much my Savior loves me, how his love never fails, and how no matter what I do, I cannot earn salvation: it is a gift. These certainties are extremely comforting in times like these. Jesus is extremely comforting in times like these.
So I continue to challenge myself, as well as others around me, with one simple question: What are your uncertainties in your life? And how are you dealing with them? I have found comfort in the only person that can fulfill my needs in the good times, in the trying times, and in the worst times. Jesus does not disappoint. And the more I spend time with Him, the more I desire to follow his steps daily. So take today, which has now been made certain, and live in confidence by Luke 9:23. "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."
Lastly, I want to send continued thanks to all the members of City Church Tallahassee. You all continue to inspire me on a daily basis, and the mission of reaching this city is working!
