Well Said

d

by Bret Cowley

"How can I be, so prone to wander

so prone to leave You, so prone to die

and how can You be, so full of mercy

You race to meet me and bring me back to life"

-- Chris Rice, Prone to Wander

I grew up going to church 3 times a week. For 18 years there was double header on Sunday and then another service on Wednesday night (and yes the sermons were different from Sunday morning and Sunday night). My attendance record was full of gold stars!

So why is it that when I went to college I quit going to church? Why did I stop doing what I had been doing for the past 18 years and then spent the next 10 years of my life wandering and "doing my own thing"?

Looking back I can see that one of the reasons I wandered was because I was so used to thinking that I had to be perfect to go to Church (thank you small town TN Church of Christ). I was caught up in religion. At the time I was in college, out making decisions and mistakes on my own. Yet I did not know how to deal with reconciling those mistakes in my relationship with God.

Finding The Well, a place that focuses on not putting off going to Church because you are waiting for the time (when you "have it right") is what has helped me the most. The Well has opened my eyes to focusing on being gospel driven and not getting caught up in religion.

Life is about pursuing a Christ-like perfection and knowing that even though we will never obtain that perfection, recognizing a bloody cross and an empty tomb is our way to forgiveness. The reason I love The Well so much is because, as a Church Family, we know that we are not perfect and we do not profess to be. We are going to mess up in the journey called life... A LOT!
Thankfully, we know that when we stray, no matter how far, that God hasn't strayed from us, and that he wilelcome us back with open arms
We always talk about sharing the gospel with those who haven't ever heard it before, but what about those you know who are out there wandering and waiting till the time is "right"?
Are you sharing the opportunity to come and visit our Church Family?
Are you ready to welcome them with open arms?
