Well Said

d

"Yeah, I said it." By Megan David

For those of you who know me, you know I typically have a lot to say. I come just shy of talking someone's ears off. But today, I have not the slightest clue to what I want to say. I have decided I should just go where my heart takes me. Yikes! Here goes nothing...

This past year has brought on more than I could have ever imagined. I would be lying if I told you that I welcomed it with arms wide open.  If I was honest with myself (which sometimes is hard because of my pride), I would say I take on way more than I should.

I have become the person that has a difficult time saying no; the person that can not sit back and relax; the person that is beyond frazzled at the end of the day; the person that takes on too much to make everyone else happy.  No bueno.  As a result of my "help everyone, be everywhere" attitude, I am constantly overwhelmed and feel that my to-do-list is unending. I am by no means saying that it is wrong to help or love others. No, no, no! Helping others is something that I love to do (like a lot), but recently, I have been putting pleasing others above my quiet time with the Lord.

I recently read Luke 10:38-42 which talks about Jesus visiting Mary and Martha. Rather than embracing the presence of the Lord, Martha ran around and was distracted by trying to make sure everything was perfect. Mary stopped what she was doing and sat at the feet of the Lord to listen to what He had to say. I find myself behaving like Martha. I often try to accomplish everything on my list instead of sitting at the feet of the Lord and listening. I fail to recognize the presence of the Lord in all things because I am caught up in "getting things done." I mean come on, even Jesus needed alone time! (John 6:22)

Many of us fail to give God the time that He created. We lack the urgency to spend time with Him because we are so overwhelmed by the anxieties of the world. How wonderful is it to know that God does not make us choose to be like Mary or Martha? In response to Christ's love, we should serve and love others. But isn't it funny that Martha was so concerned with "doing" that she failed to recognize that the Creator was IN her home. OUR CREATOR.  He's like...a really big deal! I am not at all saying that doing things are bad, but after a while we begin to forget why we are doing them. We begin worrying about things that are not eternal. We lose focus of the Creator that lives in our hearts. The Creator that died for our sins. The Creator that loves us dearly, and just wants us to stop...and listen.
