Well Said

d
by Lee Ellzey

"You have no idea what God wants to accomplish through you." - Andy Stanley

Several years ago I was introduced to Dean and The Well. As my wife Cyndi and I began listening to online services, reading Dean's blog, etc. , we began to follow some of the same leaders and pastors that
were recommended to us. People like Francis Chan, Perry Noble, Andy Stanley, David Platt and Steven Furtick. Through their teaching and our Bible study and prayer, we became convinced and convicted of some very basic fundamentals of being a Christ follower - the most basic of which is that no Christ follower is expected to watch from the sidelines or the bleachers - a Christ follower is expected to be involved. God has things He wants to accomplish through each of us and to do that we have to be active.

As we examined our faith in Christ we became increasingly aware that although we say we love God
and we attend church and we teach Bible study - our lives were way too comfortable. There was no
stepping "outside the box." We were predictable in our behavior toward God. So we began to take
His commands to us personally and seriously. We believe the scripture is written for a purpose - not
just to fill pages in a book. Jesus' commands to us on how we are to live our lives and how we are to
interact "with the least of these" is not just a suggestion. His command to follow Him is not part of a
multiple choice response where we have the option of not obeying. His command to us to go and tell is for all Christ followers not just a few.

It's important for each of us to be willing to listen and then do! A few weeks ago, I resigned from a
position on staff at First Baptist Church of Inverness so that we could begin volunteering here at The
Well - because we believe God wants us to be here in Tallahassee. God intends for us to live lives that are not comfortable - lives that depend on Him! As we transition from Inverness to Tallahassee, we have a strange sense of calmness combined with excitement. Our lives don't always make sense to others but radical obedience to Him does!

In order for us to be used by God, we have to be willing to listen to Him. The story of Esau and Jacob is a reminder to us of what could have been. Had Esau been patient and waited, he would not have traded his birthright (or his future) to his brother Jacob for a bowl of stew. Had Esau not traded his future to satisfy his immediate appetite (his hunger), we would be singing about the God of Esau instead of the God of Jacob. As Andy Stanley says, "You have no idea what God wants to accomplish through you."

Our goal in 2011 is to suppress our own appetites and be open and willing to be used by God. The
future He has for us is so much better than one we would plan for ourselves! What does God want to
accomplish through you?
