Well Said
by Lauren Rilling
It's taken me a long time to understand and accept what
God's plan for me was. And although He still surprises me every day with new
experiences, I know one thing for certain: I am supposed to be at The Well, in
Tallahassee, and growing closer to Christ each day. I was raised Catholic, got
baptized, received my first communion, did all the stuff I was "supposed" to
do. But, sometime around the second half of my freshman year of high school I
lost complete belief that God was someone who was real and someone who was good.
When I moved to Tallahassee in the summer of 2007 I dabbled
a little in the Catholic Church near campus but just wasn't feeling it. It
wasn't until my second year of college that I really started to seek a new
relationship with God. I started going to another church and was working with the
kids a couple times a month. I really enjoyed learning more about God and how
he continuously provides for me but I still stayed in the shadows. Around this
time I was hit with a huge setback in my college career. I spent most that day
in bed crying and feeling bad for myself when my roommate walked into my room
and gave me a hug and promised it would be okay.
Not too long after yet another nervous breakdown, The Well
came into my life. The first service I attended was their second year
anniversary and I thought it was so cool that this church had only been around
for two years and the auditorium of Godby High School was packed! I loved the
way that Dean spoke to the church with such an honest tone. He didn't beat
around the bush and had the scripture to prove it. As I got involved in Well
Kids, I grew into such a different person then the one who first came to
Tallahassee a couple years ago.
This past summer I had yet another huge setback in my
college career and yet another huge breakdown. The only difference was that
this time instead of only seeking advice from my parents and advisors, I looked
to God for guidance. I drew myself a nice warm bath, where some of my deepest
praying and listening happens, I know, weird, but it's where I'm at total
peace, and simply said to God, "I don't know what you have in store for me, but
I know it will be great and I will be great". And that's what brings me here.
To Tallahassee. To The Well. And man am I sure glad that I He brought me here.
As I listened to the band sound check on Sunday, I looked around at our new,
permanent (yay!) home I sighed and thanked God for bringing me to such an
awesome place filled with amazing people.
"Trust in the
Lord with all your heart,
and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." (Proverbs
3:5-6)
